ALL people are deserving of dignity and respect, not just a selected few. Not only people who were born here that deserve to be citizens, but I would also have those who serve in our military once they attain citizenship to show how loyal they are to their new country.
I myself used to work at an Immigration office and saw many people who joined the military and served in Iraq and Afghanistan first once they got their citizenship.

Obviously, anyone who is born here is a natural-born American citizen, with the full rights thereof, regardless of ancestry, immediate or distant.
Also, obviously, children of American citizens who happen to be born abroad.
Naturalized citizens also have every right to live here, just as they enjoy all the rights of natural-born citizens.
Legal residents are and should be allowed to live here.
Shorter term visa-holders should be allowed to live here for the durration of thier visas.
Temporary migrant workers, when it's shown that no legal residents or citizens are available to do the work, and that the work cannot be automated or offshored, should be allowed to live here for the durration of thier contracts.
On an emergency basis, refugees from oppressive regimes, wars, natural disasters and the like should be allowed to live here while thier status is confirmed. Though it would be reasonable to place some restrictions upon them for that same period.
I think that should about cover it.

at first i would say yes, some people come here just so their children can be americans, which gives them amnesty. if you go thru the proper legal channals to become a legal resident they you have full legal rights here. but if you snuck in and had a baby then you and your baby should be deported. but if your grandparents were born here then you have every right to be here.
bottom line if you are legal then you deserve every right Americans have. but you shouldn't get special treatment either.
sorry if i strayed off topic.
it just bothers me, if we were born in a foreign country we would get a 'Born Abroad' birth certificate and still be americans, but if you are born here then you get a American birth certificate.
think of america as a club, if your not on the list, then you sneak in or buy your way in, well if everyone sneaks in then eventually there will be no room for those of us who already have a place here.

1. Legal US Citizens and Legal Immigrants
However, immigrants should be required to do the following:
1. Pay taxes and contribute to society
2. Learn English (regardless of what their native language is.)
Illegal immigrants are hurting our economy. They take advantage of wellfare and other government aid programs, but rarely pay taxes. However, they aren't trying to hurt our economy. They're just trying to make ends meet and support their families. Regardless, they are detracting from our ecomomy while boosting others. This needs to stop!
Over 12,000,000 people in the United States are illegal immigrants. That's 10 times the population of Dallas, TX!

It is not a matter of anyone having more rights than someone else. It is the fact that they come in and stay ILLEGALLY. If they want to live here, they need to do it the right way and become English speaking citizens of the country.

I think people should only be allowed to live and have a green card in this country if they can speak english and hold jobs and have an education. Im sorry but I personally don't like that spanish classes are mandatory because of all the mexican immigration. My kids will have no mexican heritage and neither do I so I resent that they are forced to learn a language that has nothing to do with them.
