The US Government forced immigrants from Europe ( Russia, Italy, Poland, Latvia, Greece, etc.) to legally register to enter the country at Ellis Island. The US took such draconian measures such as checking for diseases and any criminal activity in the country from which they came. Many were deported as a result. Is this an indicator that the US was prejudiced and racist against Europeans such as it is claimed the present US policy is racist.

Should legal permanent resident immigrants residing in the U.S for over 40 years who have worked, paid taxes, obeyed all laws, and who are upstanding contributing community members be granted automatic citizenship if they so desire it?

Why do so many people talk so many bad things? Illegal immigrants don't hurt anyone only those racist people are the ones hurting this country. They are very beneficial to this country, only those ignorant racists people won't open their eyes and see the great contributions they have done to this great country. This site is filled with many racist people, that say so many bad things about immigrants; however, they only say this online and would not dare to say anything in front people. Say what you want to say, your hatred will keep you from accepting the truth.

I think the biggest thing we need to address is getting more people on the border. Bring the national guard back and have them assist the border patrol in manning the border. Second, allowed local law enforcement easier access to see if people they arrest for other crimes are hear illegally. Third, after prison sentences for illegals immediately start deportation procedures. If we follow these rules I am very sure we can drastically reduce the amount of illegals in the US lets not kid ourselves you really cannot get rid of all of them but you can at least make the situation much more manageable for the government and citizens.

This is a quote from the article mentioned in the subject line:

"It is unfortunate that the residents of Farmers Branch have chosen to implement a law which is not only bad policy, but is likely also unconstitutional," said Lisa Graybill, legal director for the ACLU of Texas. "Now the issue will have to be resolved in federal court.""

I consider this to be an example of how the bias laws and ordinances have helped the illegal alien population of Texas and has hurt the Texas American citizens. The laws and ordinances sound reasonable at first, but they have swollen into a gross misrepresentation of their purpose.

For example of many:
All major retailers must display all signs in Spanish as well as English, so this is done for most English speaking retailers. the reverse is not true. There are more stores, churches, restaurants, bakeries, etc.only display Spanish language signs. The owners rarely speak, read or write English. I could state many, but I ask you, iss this fair??

I was watching the movie Crash (2004) and Terrence Howard's character gets ridiculed by his wife because he acts white. Why is it that if you are a black american, you are expected to act a certain way such as being able to speak proper English and if you don't then you are an Uncle Tom or whatever they want to say. What's worse is that is other black americans that are doing this sterotype to eachother.

for about 4 mths at the weekend. On Saturday her boss phoned her and told her not to go in because they were staying closed for the day.
Anyway, later on that day her friend who she work's with phoned and asked why she hadn't goen in, and that she to had also been sent home.
To add insult to injury, my sister found out on the Monday that 8 polish people had taken there jobs and that they weren't needed anymore.
I am really angry on my sisters behalf because she is so hard working (for her age), never misses a shift and is always on time.
Now she has no job, bearing in mind it's hard enough at that age to find a job, but also no income.
Does anyone else agree that this is appauling and does she have a leg to stand on?
I know I rant and rave and I don't discriminate but shouldn't British Citizens come first in our own country???

Lets face it, if immigration really was a big deal, why didn't the Republicans who are "demanding" a solution for it, "demand" Bush and his Republican congress take action on it only a year ago?

You all are decendent from immigrants; unless your living on a reservation, that is.

List 3 things you love about mexicans
I'm sad 'cause always that I open yahoo! answers I have to read something bad about my race...
I just came to USA to study and to find that there actually exists bad in the people, I just found out that we are not equals, that it is not the same red blood running in our veins... that skin color is what it counts....
I just read an answer that says "yeah, lets build a great big wall and protected by the delinquents". It isn't that sad? I know it is sad for my people to leave their countries and break rules, I know it is sad that they came here and try to live a little bit better than they did before...just because in our places we did not provide them with more jobs... but hey this is not just a problem that come from Mexican people, sadly my country has served as a bridge from most of the people in the world that want to have a piece of the "American Pie", but it seem is just us mexicans the ones to be blame...

I have read a lot about the visas/immigration process. My boyfriend is French, eventually we will be living in France (in 5 years) but during the next 5 years we would like to live and work in the US. I am trying to find the best and cheapest solution. I live in CA and I was thinking that when he comes here on his next tourist visa we would just go to vegas and get married and then begin the process .. any suggestions? I really appreciate any advice you can spare. Thank you!

So many times the illegal is permited to stay in the country. Its not fair to those who have waited and paid the money necessary to get papers legally. WIll the government give us our money back? Why are we punished for obeying the law?

If I decide to stay abroad after a trip to Europe this summer I would have to return 3 months before my passport expires. I will most likely return before Feb, but I would like the flexibility of having a passport that does not expire in April.

The other issue is that I leave in a month. Is there even enough time to renew it? Is there an express renew process?
