It's a good start, other cities might follow suit.
Eventually the Federal Govt. will get the hint.

I think that this was a great move and one that will hopefully lead other towns & cities to follow suit. I do think that they are at a thin line making decisions that some people say should be left to the federal government, but when the government isn't working maybe it is time to try something else. For those of you who think that this is hateful or unconstitutional, the new laws are not against immigrants, only ILLEGAL immigrants, there is a difference. Also where in the constitution does it say that legal American citizens should lay down and let illegal citizens walk all over them. And as far as the official language thing, as an immigrant you are agreeing to assimilate into our culture and our culture is English speaking. This is our language and way of communication. Refusing to learn the English language leads to a break down in communication. We cannot be united as a country if we are not united in language.

i agree. but i think one of the problems people bring up with this law is...now they are saying that the average landlord must have specialized training to identify the proper documentation. it's essentially placing the landlord in the same position as a bar bouncer, or a policeman. those people have traing to recognize what's fake and what's real. and i think some landlords are nervous that they will be held accountable for something they aren't able to do.
on the other hand, i think some people will go on renting to illegals and then say, "well, i didn't know the documents were fake!!!" and whether this is true or not, no one will really know.

Naturally they don't want to get busted and what better way then to camouflage themselves to not be targeted!
"WELL LETS SEE WHO GETS STUCK WITH WALKING THE CATTLE"
Just as a drug dealer sporting a bumper sticker saying that they support their local police department...
Uniting Farmers Branch does not support illegal immigration. As we all know, this is a federal issue that must be dealt with in Congress and not with the ill conceived, ineffective, burdensome, and divisive measures that the Farmers Branch City Council has enacted. The first step is to vote down the ordinance.
{Furthermore, we support the granting of sufficient modes of legal entry for the workers needed by U.S businesses, governments, entrepreneurs and individuals}
. Our government needs to know who is here and where they are working. We also advocate strict enforcement of employment standards to protect all workers and ensure the proper payment of taxes.
We are currently engaged in a vigorous voter registration drive and will marshal the resources needed to overturn Ordinance 2903 in the upcoming election. With our success, we will change the course of history in Farmers Branch, TX, and the nation. This is the only immigration ordinance campaign of its kind ever conducted and will be the first ordinance of its kind overturned by a public vote.
As our name suggests, Uniting Farmers Branch seeks to unite rather than divide our fine city. By inspiring all the stakeholders of Farmers Branch, we can work as a community to improve our image, strengthen our financial standing and revive our leadership role in the region.

loophole...
does that mean it's not illegal to own? ;)
Oh and it's not one state down 49 to go either. Farmers Branch is a small community.
It just means that they will drive 10 minutes to the next city to rent.

There are other states and counties that are trying to push for that law.The only people it will hurt is the property owners.Here again,I know several property owners that will only rent to them because they are the only ones who can come up with the security deposit and 1st months rent and they pay on time.The going rate for rent in Providence now is 800usd and up.

i'd like to see how many of these landlords were stuck w/o tennants and end up losing their homes/buildings to foreclosures. I'd like to see the numbers in a couple of months when they'll be lowering rents and requirements to get renters in. just a thought u know.
