I am shocked by some of the answers I'm receiving to other questions with people stating that legal temporary migrant workers cannot get SSN's with their visa. My husband came here as a legal farm-worker, applied for and received a SS card that looks just like yours and mine and he has paid taxes with that LEGAL and VALID SSN assigned to him by our government since he got here. Even after he over-stayed his visa and became "illegal."

if a dog were to cross the border from Mexico and come to our home starving and thirsty we would open our doors and welcome him/her with open arms and feed him and bathe him if need be and either keep him or try to find him a good home but we won't do that for a human being in the same circumstance?

What does that say about us as humans that we value the life of a dog more than the life of a man?

Before you all jump on me and say all illegals are paid under the table and all illegals don't pay taxes let me say I have first-hand knowledge of MANY illegals who either have tax id#'s or REAL SSN's assigned to them when they entered the country legally but are now considered illegal by over-staying their visa. I know first-hand that MANY illegals DO pay taxes.

Do you think the government would not have put a stop to the influx of illegals if none of them were paying taxes? Why does the government not deport these people? Simple. They are contributing into a system in which they will never be able to withdraw. They will never get welfare, unemployment, medicare or social security. What is the incentive for the government to deport that illegal?

Do you guys think that a person who comes here illegally but works and pays taxes, and is a law-abiding member of society should be deported just for the mere reason he came with no papers?

Is refusing to learn English in America, a sign of racism ? If some one does not learn English, and decides to come to America that person is separating him/her self from the majority of the population. This is cutting the lines of communication, and this creates a lack of understanding for other people.

Our history was written in English, how will our future be understood if common citizens look at the Constitution and see a strange language they can not understand ?

Why are illegals and their supporters both in the United States and Mexico, compare the proposed border fencing to the Berlin wall?
My understanding is the Berlin wall was to keep their people in, and if anyone was stupid enough to want to go into Berlin, they would have glady open the gates while making sure do one went out.

John Reid yielded to growing public concern over the level of immigration yesterday and unveiled a package of quotas and fines intended to curb arrivals from Romania and Bulgaria.

Tougher penalties, and a cap on the number of low-skilled workers, formed the key part of a package of measures.

Immigrants from Eastern Europe have pushed young people out of work and have caused some wages to rise, despite hopes that they would dampen down inflation, Barclays Capital, the City investment bank claims.

In a report, Immigration and the UK economy, published yesterday by Barclays Capital, the bank’s analysis suggests that the Bank of England may have to tighten monetary policy more than previously thought, as it shows that any loosening in the labour market caused by the influx of about 600,000 migrants over the past two years has now faded away.

The report debunks some of the optimism around the decision to allow citizens of Poland and nine other new EU nations immediate rights to work in Britain. It finds that unemployment has risen by 2.7 percentage points, or some 124,000, among 18 to 24-year-olds over the past two years, a much sharper increase than in any other adult age group.

Arpaio starts 2-week mandatory English classes for inmates Oct. 24, 2006 12:00 AM Go directly to jail. Do pass a competency exam. Non-English- speaking inmates in Maricopa County jails began mandatory English classes on Monday. At the end of their two-week course, inmates must take a test to see how well they learned about American government, the words to God Bless America and the communication of health and safety needs. "These inmates happen to be incarcerated in the United States of America and in Maricopa County where I run the jails," Sheriff Joe Arpaio said in a statement. "And we speak English here, not foreign languages." Classes will last two hours a day. The curriculum comprises the three branches of government, how a bill becomes law, state government, law enforcement and court services, and jailhouse "situational" terminology. Most students will be native-Spanish speakers. Of the 10,000 prisoners in Maricopa County jails, about 3,000 are Hispanic, including roughly 1,000 undocumented immigrants. - Mike Cronin

Im an immigrant and Im everyday grateful to God for the opportunity to live in this country. Americans are great people, those that are racist are just a minority, they're unhappy people that have nothing to do, so its a trivial thing and I dont worry about it. I just enjoy everyday like it will be my last.

There are countries where you cant even get a job if you are a foreigner !! So I dont understand why people attack the US so much, this is one of the countries that have one of the most flexible immigrant laws among the rich countries. Some countries you cant get citizenship no matter if you marry one of their citizens and no matter if you had been living there your whole life, you have to be born there.

Im agree that the US have to secure its borders, Its a demographic problem, that was why the immigration laws were created, at first we didnt have immigration laws but now we need them to asure we will not run out of resources because of immigration.

USA rules !!
