Before you all jump on me and say all illegals are paid under the table and all illegals don't pay taxes let me say I have first-hand knowledge of MANY illegals who either have tax id#'s or REAL SSN's assigned to them when they entered the country legally but are now considered illegal by over-staying their visa. I know first-hand that MANY illegals DO pay taxes.
Do you think the government would not have put a stop to the influx of illegals if none of them were paying taxes? Why does the government not deport these people? Simple. They are contributing into a system in which they will never be able to withdraw. They will never get welfare, unemployment, medicare or social security. What is the incentive for the government to deport that illegal?
Do you guys think that a person who comes here illegally but works and pays taxes, and is a law-abiding member of society should be deported just for the mere reason he came with no papers?

oracle....you might want to check your facts before answering. My husband came here legally with a 6 month work visa. He applied for and received a SSN with that visa. SSN's are not just for citizens.

Heina.....No, what I'm trying to say is that the majority of illegal aliens are single, young men. Some of them are very young teenagers. They pay into our tax system with valid SSN's or tax id's that our government gives them. They receive nothing back from the gov't except the constant threat of deportation. These are not blanket statements I'm making there are exceptions of course. There are MANY healthy Americans who sit home and refuse to work while they get welfare and send their 10 kids to schools also paid for by our tax $$. Not all illegals pay taxes. I was merely trying to point out with this ? that many DO pay taxes but our general assumption seems to be that all illegals have the goal of coming here to get welfare and medicaid and put their kids in school here with no contributions themselves. That assumption is very far from the truth. btw, there are plenty of AMERICANS who also don't pay taxes. It's called tax evasion. Not a new crisis.

I agree they use tax ID #s and pay taxes. I know many who pay taxes and aren't taking one red cent from the government, but people on this site seem to know all illegals and know everything they are doing. Obviously people around here like to spout off without knowing the answers.

I feel they should pay more than that. It's kind of like joining a club. Lets say you pay your first set of dues ($10 a month). The club has a door prize worth $1000 and you bribe somebody in order to win that door prize. You eventually come clean with the situation, donate a door prize and give back the original door prize but you're still a member. Now, I as a veteran member have payed over $3000 in dues over the many years.. 25 to be exact and I'm only 18... and have never won one of those big door prizes therefore I feel you don't deserve to be in this club. see where I'm going with this? As American citizens we pay many taxes throughout our lives. For example: income taxes, sales taxes, property taxes (some as much as $10,000 per year) etc. I don't know if there's some median yearly rate for taxes for the average American. Whether there is or not, these illegal immigrants should have to pay a hefty fine equivilant to the average American's total amount of taxes paid in their entire lives. My contribution to fixing this society. lol

Whats the point of having immigation laws-which every country has-if they are only paper laws. Those that overextended their visa had the option of applying for citizenship and /or receiving() a extension after applying for it. Just a note=only a citizen gets a social security number and card-legal non-citizens get a green card. Those who are here as law abiding members of society can (instead of hiding) get documentation of how they contribute-neighbors,friends,employers, also character references and then present with application for citizenship and if truly a asset I doubt would not be considered but if they continue their illegal status in hopes of not getting caught-----system has flaws and many fall through the cracks until they are brought to the attention of immigration, and then are caught then they should be deported.

Even if you count the money illegals pay into taxes and subtract it, we are still in the deficit from illegal aliens. alot of our countries defecit would go away if there were no illegals. So what you are really trying to say is that just because a person is forced to pay taxes because their employer THINKS they are lagal that it's okay to break the law? WRONG!

If a person enters the US with no papers, they cannot be issued a tax ID or SSN. Therefore, they cannot pay taxes. Those people should be deported. People who have over stayed their visa's make me wonder why they haven't gone home or renewed thier visa. We have laws in this country for a reason. Being a good person does not give you permission to break the law.

All they did was not have papers?
Ok, should a fraudulent dentist or doctor quit practicing just for the mere reason that they did not have their papers at the time? Should a person not
Yes, I do think he should be deported either voluntary or involuntary. He knew he was commiting an illegal action from the get go. If you know that you are commiting a crime and you do it anyway, you get deported.

Yes, they should still be deported. They need to return home and apply legally. I agree with Cafra and several others here who say they need to be deported. I will go one further and say that if they leave on their own steam and "self-deport," then I think they should be given some leeway for that when they go home and do the application properly to return. If they continue to try to dodge Immigration and try to stay illegally until they are actually deported at the expense of taxpaying citizens, then I think they should be given a permanent status of "felon" and NEVER be allowed to return to the USA again.

Stop! Think!
There are legal ways to become a citizen.
So research the legal ways (online) and then ask real questions.
Again, follow the path to becoming legal by following what has been in place for generations....only the Native Americans were here originally, and all of our relatives followed the regulations to become citizens,
or they went overseas and Married Foreigners and brought them home to the Great USA!

Taxes paid from a low wage job like the ones they have are insignificant. The money used to educate them, provide healthcare and jail them are much greater than anything they will ever pay in.
