No, especially since if they are caught working as an illegal, they get only a £1000 fine with no threat of deportation!
Im curious as to what the government will do when the immigrants begin to take over.
Instead of bringing in 20'000 unskilled workers wouldnt they be better forcing 20'000 lazy british people back into work?

No, it won't work. Not least, Romanians and Bulgarians will be able to enter the country freely as tourists.
Britain desperately needs effective controls on immigration, however much one regrets the necessity, because of the enormous strains currently being placed on the infrastructure - transport, housing etc. - in Southern England and the social problems that are being generated. But it is difficult to justify treating Romanians and Bulgarians differently from nationals of other East European countries that have recently joined the European Union.
The real answer is that Bulgaria and Romania, and all the many other countries from which people are seeking to immigrate to the United Kingdom, should be developed economically, by environmentally sustainable means, so that people are no longer so desperate for work that they feel the need to disrupt their lives, and their families, by seeking to enter Britain for work.

I've read it on the newspapers. They will be only allowed to work in certain types of jobs, such as food preparation, and agriculture, if they get a permit from the government.
I don't think it's gonna work. It will only make the black market of illegal employment and exploitation worse.
They should not put the block in the first place. When people complain about both legal and illegal immigrants, what do they know about those who had to leave where they are from? People always say 'Oh, immigrants are taking up jobs, calming benefit, and living in free houses' then what about natives doing the same, who's expenses are being paid from our tax? Anyway, many immigrants are not even entitled to receive benefit, so they have to work instead of those who get paid for sitting around all day.
I think the government should review many thing like the benefit system for example, that is keeping many people out of job instead of helping them to be independent, rather than putting a block to those who are willing to work. But they are just blaming things on those who have not much power to answer back, and going for an easy fix again, that will not sort out anyone's problem.

I am sick of watching the British government give our country away, its high time that we reclaim our borders. Every year more and more British people are buying property in Europe just to get away from a country in which they are no longer able to express their opinions for fear of being labelled as a racist and one that can hardly be recognised as Britain. Is this the Britain that both my grandfathers fought for? I feel that I am British because they did although it does seem that they shouldn't have bothered. We should have a system ;like that of Australia whereby if you have something valuable to bring to this country than come otherwise stay where you are!!!!!!!!
Thya blame the british for not wanting to the jobs that these people are coming here for, but what this really means is that the British people refuse to do these jobs for that kind of money these people are just keeping the wages down for the rest of us and as house prices are going up this is just another problem for the poorer of our society.

I have been following this issue on Y-Answers for a while. The Easter Europeans, who went to Britain in the last two years, went legally, because of the politics of "open doors" to EU member states. Therefore they are not illegally in the country, they work (including in the social services and health care), pay taxes and contribite to the social security and pension funds.
Presently, the UK government is using Bulgaria and Romania to ease public tension over fear of immigrant communities.
I don't honestly believe that blocking the access of Bulgarians/Romanians to the UK labour market will solve UK's immigration problems. First, these are only two out of 180 countries.
Second, there aren't big communities of these people causing the problem there. This means that generally the number of Bulgarians living illegally in the UK in close to zero. How many Bulgarians do you know living around you or in the area? If you know any - what is their status? I bet they are not "spongers".
Blocking the right of Bulgaria/Romania's citizens to work legally in the UK, combined with the visa-free regime are perfect conditions for allowing illegal immigrants into the UK.
So, no, the measures will create a problem, rather than help solve it. The decision is meaningless and discriminative towards only the last two new EU member states.
PS. Some statistics might be interesting. The population of Bulgaria is a total of 7.5 mln, Romania - appr. 20 mln, Poland - 50 mln., Turkey - 70 mln.

Nope. Never did before and won't now. It's just legislation to pander to the public outrage that English is hardly heard on our streets anymore.
There are many angles to come at this. The fact is that these people coming to our country are doing a lot of the jobs we Brits feel are below us and tend to do them better than we would.
My objection comes from them getting benefits if they have no job and free healthcare which should be the reserve of citizens of this country. By this I don't mean that you have to be born here to get it though. I mean that you have to go through the due process of getting a right to remain visa or full/joint citizenship. To get that you have to pay taxes and that means working legitimately.
So in that case I think that there needs to be some sort of proper regulation regarding who can receive these services and who can't. If you are in this country illegally you should be left to die inthe street rather than treated in one of our hospoitals for free. Simple as that.

No, not at all.The "block" is just to "appease" people. Feelings on Immigration are running high,so they felt they had to say/do something!! The Government know full well they cannot realistically do anything about it. Being part of Europe,it allows for free movement of peoples, therefore, they cannot stop anyone from Europe coming here!!! Those that do not get work permits ,will just stay here, and get work on the black market. Will anyone do anything about it? NO! Experience with this incompetent Government tells us that!!

The population is aging fast, already the Govt warns that there will soon be insufficient people of working age to support the pensioner population. We should welcome the renewal of our working population by people from other countries.
Almost all migrants move to find work and a better life. The bravest, most flexible people are the ones coming here, and by working hard and raising their families they will create the wealth to fund my pension, healthcare and children's education.
Of course the block will not work. If people are determined they will get around it, legally or illegally.
Have laws stopped illegal music downloads, booze cruises or smoking a spliff. No; because people are determined to do the things they want and need.

No, unfortunately this country has too many holes in it to plug, it's a little bit like a tea bag, but without the flavour, and without the benefit of any refreshment. What's more our government couldn't care less what the indigenous population of Britain thinks. If anyone says too much that person is accused of being a racist.

Why would we want it to? If the people coming are good, then we should accept them. If I lived there and was sure that I could provide a better life for my family by moving to Britain I would do the same.
