My wife has a J-1 visa and I am trying to have her 2 years home residency requirement waived. I am wondering what kind of arguements individuals used to obtain the waiver. I am a US citizen and my wife is a El Salvadorial national.

I, know stupid question. BUT, since the liberal argument has been that illegals do jobs that nobody else wants, what will happen? I suspect that all of the jobs will be filled by LEGAL workers.

is to let them come into the UK? Are we just going to let every person who wishes to come into this country? I realise they are usually escaping a war torn country, but is the solution to let everyone in? The UK has also had conflict but we've managed to overcome it. And do you think that Pakistani's and Indians add anything to this country? How many corner shops do we need? And I find teenage Pakistani's to be generally pains in the ***'s (innit?) It's good to be nice and all that but I think we're being taken for a ride. My grandfather fought in the second world war, but was second priority to asylum seekers when he needed help from the social services. I also think that there is a social straightjacket called political correctness that gets ever-tighter. What are your thoughts on this?

Since I and other anti-illegal folks here keep getting called racist, let me clarify for all you name callers.

I am 34 years old, I have blond hair and green eyes. My heritage is irish and american indian. I have dated two black men over the years, one mexican man and one of my closest friends is a young lady who is half black, half caucasion. I speak spanish fluently, cook great mexican food, and I can dance to mexican music. I learned to speak spanish from the mexicans in El Centro that lived in Mexico and worked in the restraunt with me, they had work visas and came across the border every day legally. I have a great working relationship with the Asian guy in our office, I think he is Cambodian, but he is adopted and not too sure of his nationality.

On the other hand, I want all illegal aliens deported TODAY! Yeah, go ahead, call me racist, when you do I would like to know exactly what race it is that I am racist against. Am I a racist? Against who?

You really ignorant Americans, who are too lazy to even read a BOOK, let alone learn another language or read the immigration laws...does any any of you have even the slightest idea that you can't just "apply to be a legal immigrant"?!?
Those laws that allowed a certain quota of skilled people from each country to come legally are no longer valid. You are talkjng about the 60's, now it's 2006!
Now you only have a DV lottery and if you don't win , you can't come as an immigrant under any circumstances ever(OK, only if you are a Nobel prize scientist or an Olympic champion).
Do you even bother to read your own laws before telling people" huh, why don't you do it the legal way?".

If there was a legal way, noone would be illegal.

I read so many of the questions and answers from the Pro-crime crowd that says that illegals are NICE and NOT bothersome AND hard working.

Is it residency via popularitycontest?
should the LAW (there is that big nasty unrelenting word again!) be only applied to people that are not nice?

I am sure that there nice ans not nce people on both sides of the debate. I am equally sure that EVRYONE is not nice at times. Are they only to be caught and deported during their moments of not-niceness?

Ok this is the way that I see it. Both of your parents are born in another country but you are born here. This makes you 100% American of whatever ethnic origin your parents are.
Inspite of them both being born outside the US. First and foremost you are an American and your ethnicity second.

Look at some of their responses on this site...the narcissistic philosophy of "I will get whatever I want from whomever I want using any means I want to do it"! These people are like the two year old who thinks everything belongs to them.....and if it doesn't, has a totally irrational and huge temper tantrum!

I think it's "TIME-OUT" time for the fit-throwers. May be they should spend their time-out in Mexico and just think about how rude they are to the American benefactors....

BTW, I think we should "choose" who we give "our" tax dollars too....and I think it's not to the illegals....

Who would object to having a legal Mexican as a neighbor? I ask this because I've noticed that right after you guys pull the "legality" card, you don't hesitate to call us Mexicans "beaners", "bean burritos", "berry pickers", "clown-car rider" and other idiotic terms. Does becoming legal strip a person of those definitions?

When people are here in the United States. They Scream and hollar I'm Mexican , I'm Philippine, I'm Puerto Rican etc etc and how much pride they have.

But when they go to a foreign country and stuff happens they whip out that passport and scream I'm an American get me the hell out of here? Why it when their butts are on the line they suddenly became a proud American but on their home soil they're anything but a Proud American?

Hypothetical situation.

The government decides tomorrow to grant citizenship to all of the illegals in the country. Hooray. These people are now granted all the benefits and priviledges for being citizens.

Being citizens, they are covered by wage laws and in many cases join unions, etc. They're no longer undocumented, so employers can't make up wages, pay them under the table, etc.

They've just lost the one thing that made them so attractive to employers in the first place.

The employers are losing money on the former illegals, so they hire a new crop of illegals to fill the positions and lay off the new citizens.

Now we have a large number of new, unemployed citizens from a poor, uneducated background with few marketable skills. They are forced to rely on government service just like they did as illegals.

But now we have a new crop of illegals pulling from the system as well. We're back to the drawing board with more mouths to feed.

What's the solution?

Did you ever think if all this "brainpower" went towards helping everyone that no one would do without? There are some good suggestions on answers with a little revisions towards including every nation think of the possibilities. America has their Rebels and gangs,God knows they have enough drug problems without the help of other Nations.Welfare fraud is and always will be a way of life for Americans why because it's an easy way out. Foreigners learn through Americans remember we don't have the resources in our countries for "handouts".
