You really ignorant Americans, who are too lazy to even read a BOOK, let alone learn another language or read the immigration laws...does any any of you have even the slightest idea that you can't just "apply to be a legal immigrant"?!?
Those laws that allowed a certain quota of skilled people from each country to come legally are no longer valid. You are talkjng about the 60's, now it's 2006!
Now you only have a DV lottery and if you don't win , you can't come as an immigrant under any circumstances ever(OK, only if you are a Nobel prize scientist or an Olympic champion).
Do you even bother to read your own laws before telling people" huh, why don't you do it the legal way?".
! THERE IS NO LEGAL WAY. Not in 2006.
If there was a legal way, noone would be illegal.
Give people a chance before judging them.

Mikegolf, thank you for taking time to actually read the options for immigration. But those refer only to people who've been political prisoners, battered wives from certain countries and kids under 18. APart from that, there is no option for normal people who've worked here for years, paid taxes, have college degrees, speak excellent English...If there were, me and all my illegal friends would have been US citizens. You don't know how humiliating is to have no options in fron tof you. Lawyers can't help us, because the laws say NO...

Sashie, those legals have either come years ago, when laws were veeeery different, either, married for papers(that's a crime!), or won the Green Card Lottery. Which one is admirable?

I was born here....I can speak the language....I have a job, and I pay my damn taxes......I am a productive member of society....I obey the laws of this nation.......If you can't do the first, you do the rest. That's how you deserve citizenship.

There is a perfectly legal way, you even mentioned. There is a quota for how many people from each country can enter the US, and a lottery for the rest.
What you're asking for is unlimited legal immigration, which would destroy our economy even worse then the illegal flood.
Immigration laws are created for a reason. They're created to protect the country hosting, not the people wanting to immigrate.
Personally, I think the laws should be stricter, not more lax.
How do I deserve my citizenship? First I was born in the US. Second, every two weeks a third of my paycheck is consumed to feed all of the illegals. Third, I vote and I have served jury duty and I am registered for the draft.
The only government aid that I use daily are the streets I drive on.
Pretty sweet deal for the government I should think.

I'm American. For some reason, i'm willing to bet i'm better educated then you. I've probably also read 10x more books then you ever have or will. I speak two languages (none of which is Spanish). I have no inclination to go digging through the immigration laws, I save that kind of headache for tax time.
If the quota is filled, then it's filled. What's wrong with that? If 2 dozen people crowd into your home do you have a right to say "No more!"? Or are you obligated to let whomever, whenever into your home, no questions asked? If "THERE IS NO LEGAL WAY' then there is "NO LEGAL WAY". Just like if you tell the crowds who are still trying to get into your home that there is no more room, then there is no more room. They don't have the right to demand entry into your home. Because it's your home. Not theirs. Do you understand that concept?
Saying that it's ok for illegal aliens to sneak into this country just because we said we don't want anymore immigrants for now, is like saying that it's ok for that crowd of people to start climbing into your windows and down your chimney even though you told them you didn't want anymore people in your home.

I work with several legal immigrants. That is proof enough that there is a legal way. You're right that the average U.S. citizen is unfamiliar with immigration law. But I think you'll find that the average citizen from ANY nation is unfamiliar with their countries immigration and naturalization laws. Immigration law in the United States needs to be changed. It's way too complicated and difficult. But there's still no excuse for illegal immigration.
I deserve my U.S. citizenship because my parents were both U.S. citizens and I was born on U.S. soil. I did it all right according to current U.S. law, therefore I deserve it.

I came by my citizenship honestly. I was born in the US, from parents who were born in the US, from parents who were born in the US...
And, just because gaining legal status in the US is hard, doesn't make it ok to come here illegally. It's hard to save a million dollars...does that mean it's ok for me to go to the bank and just take it? Your logic is flawed.
The rules of immigration had to change with the times, or there wouldn't be enough room for everyone.
And, FYI: calling Americans stupid isn't going to gain you many friends in the US...

THERE IS NO WAY FOR AMERICA TO KEEP HARBORING ILLEGALS!!! What are you talking about, if there was a legal way, no one would be illegal? THERE IS A LEGAL WAY! You're just too busy complaining about it, just like all the illegals. They're too busy complaining about it to actually make something happen and GET CITIZENSHIPS! I'm sorry, but all this immigration is f-ing ruining our country. Those that are legal are all on Welfare and WIC, so, who is paying for them to live here? US, THE INNOCENT TAXPAYERS! I don't want to hear it anymore...I CAN'T TAKE THESE ILLEGALS ANYMORE! I don't go invade their country...and if I did, I would have the decency to learn their LANGUAGE! Whatever, if I say anymore, I might flip out and get myself in trouble. So, consider that before you complain to me about how hard the illegals have it. IT IS HARD...BUT THEY'RE ILLEGAL, WHY SHOULD WE CATER TO THEM????

I know what you mean.. I was born here and everything is easy for me, I never had to fill out an applilcation to be considered a citizen or wait for years or pay tons of money... I feel blessed is how I feel and I wish it were easier for people who want to come but can't possibly do it legally.

You say we are too lazy to read a book , and you post pure nonsense. Let me ask you something...since you hate Americans so much and you hate America so much, why the hell are you still here?
There is a legal way. Why do you keep saying there isn't one? People are doing it every day! Don't you ever watch the news?

My grandfather arrived here from Lithuania. He learned the language and went through process of naturalization to become a LEGAL citizen. My great grandmother arrived here from Poland. Learned the language, went through naturalization, became a LEGAL citizen.
Friends of mine came from Mexico. Learned the language, worked hard, went through naturalization, became LEGAL citizens.
Oh, and my dear 94 year old friend came here from Spain to escape Franco....she had trouble with English, but her husband and kids learned the language. She and husband got naturalized and became LEGAL citizens.
My Chinese friends...same process...now LEGAL citizens...and that very recently.
I understand that some folks are here who don't want to return to oppressive countries...but they still need to be going through the process.....however slow and currently imperfect...to become LEGAL.
Me? I was born here. 2nd generation American, descendent of a LEGAL immigrant-turned American citizen.
