When people are here in the United States. They Scream and hollar I'm Mexican , I'm Philippine, I'm Puerto Rican etc etc and how much pride they have.

But when they go to a foreign country and stuff happens they whip out that passport and scream I'm an American get me the hell out of here? Why it when their butts are on the line they suddenly became a proud American but on their home soil they're anything but a Proud American?

This is a good question. Many people joke around when they say things like "I'm Mexican" so most of the time they arent serious. The thing is, there isnt much to be proud of is there? Right now we are fighting an, in my opinion, a pointless war. We are in billions of dollars of debt. So what that we are democratic, there are plenty of other democratic countries out there. Thats just the thing, right now we dont have much to be proud of. Do people really scream "I'm an American, get me out of here?" It just shows how cowardly and lazy we are as a whole. As a country we have probably the highest obese rate. We have a bunch of lazy people that lives their lives in front of a TV. This just comes to show how lazy we as a whole are and how well there isnt much to be proud of right now.

I know! There's nothing wrong with celebrating diversity- I'm a mutt! (french, russian, jewish, german, scottish, irish, and some welsh) I enjoy learning about different cultures, and am happy when people identify with something, because it carries on the unique traditions that might otherwise be lost (especially cooking!), but believe if you're an American, that needs to come first. If you come here to work, live, and enjoy freedom, you're an American, so stop segregating yourself! You wall yourself off, and by doing so miss out on all the fun... you wind up miserable, and thinking that people are pushing you aside because you're different- when in fact, you're often the cause of your own negative feelings of isolation. Yes, some people don't like anyone who isn't just like them, bust most Americans aren't like that- we're human beings who enjoy interacting with others and learning about different cultures, food, traditions, etc.
I personally love it! Where else could you possibly go and find so many different types of friendly people who open restaurants to feed you their unique variety of food? LOL

simple. Immigrant psychology of the 3rd world country citizens

have you ever heard a swiss or a german do the same thing? Probably not because citizens of the developed countries do not need security and a land to survive. If they live in US, that is because they want to, not because they will starve to death if they stay at their home land.

All people from poor and underdeveloped countries leave their country just to live a better life but most of the times, this is not a willing change in them.

Their identities fight against any possible assimilation while in US but once outside US they just use the priviliges of carrying a US passport just to feel superior over others.

Ridiculous if you ask me, but understandable.

Because we are proud of our heritage, whatever runs through our veins. I am 100% Mexican, yes proud of it, also I am born American citizen and proud of it too. That doesn't mean we can not be proud of where we come from. All the "Americans" who refuse to admit they came from immigrants legal or not are fooling themselves. Nobody said not to be proud of their ancestry. That is just too bad.

You're speaking in generalizations...and really I don't see the point that you're trying to make...I've never seen anyone actually scream and hollar "I'M MEXICAN!" or "I' PEURTO RICAN!!!" Now people might get upset being called Mexican when they are in fact peurto rican or Chinese when they are really Philippine...Anyway, get over your prejudices and realize that it doesn't matter

I didn't know how very Californian I was until I visited the land of my Grandparents. On top of that, I'm very Bay Area.

On the other side, I got to understand my parents better and learned why we have deviled eggs at Christmas.

I don't know. I think I am going to put bumper stickers saying "White Pride", on my car, and wearing shirts saying the same thing. I mean it is only fair right? Oh wait, that would make me a racist though because I am white. Don't you just love reverse racism?

I think when they are here in America (and anywhere else) they are proud to be Mexican Americans or whatever. They are proud of their American heritage and their ancestral heritage.
