A buddy of mine is a custodian at my daughter's elementary school. I just found out that during the kid's lunch which is about 20 minutes for the students, but an hour and a half overall for all classes combined. He is left alone with the students with no additional adult supervision. It's become his job to supervise them, line them up and even send them to recess. He tells me that he has no certification or proper training in supervising kids and that his responsibility should only be in normal custodial duties, however because of an article in his contract between the board and union, he is to do whatever the principle ask of him, if he doesn't it is considered insubordination. He wonders if there is some law that states only certified people can be left alone with children and if so who does he (or I for that matter) contact to report this violation?
