In 1776, Americans fought a war of independence. It was a struggle to be free of the bonds of government. They wanted to make their own rules and not have rules forced upon them by an oppressive government. They formed a government of their own. A government designed not to interfere with their personal liberty nor their freedom of choice.
Is this independent spirit waning in America? Are Americans becoming too dependent on their government?
A national healthcare system will be one more way for the government to control your life. Are you willing to give up more independence?

One being not so evil, ten being worse than Stalin.

Personally I rate them at a 7, which is below Saddam and Hitler, but not by much.

Conspiracy theory run amuck. Wouldn't a simpler explanation be that those who wish to dismiss ideas that challange and inform the public tell their followers books and newspapers and magazines are a liberal plot against America. That way, you have someone tell you it is ok, even patriotic and righteous, to be uninformed. Should Limbaugh and Hannity combine forces and have book burning meetings across the country! Limbaugh, Hannity, UNITE!!!

Tomorrow, with a single stroke of his cruel veto pen, President Bush will dash the hopes of millions of Americans seeking cures through the miracle of stem cell research.

By vetoing a bill that expands stem cell research, the President will say "No" to the more than 70 percent of Americans who support it, "No" to our Democratic Congress' fight for progress, and "No" to saving lives and to potential cures for diseases such as diabetes and Parkinson's. He will say "No" to hope.

Unfortunately, this is an all-too-familiar pattern in Washington these days. Once again, Democrats are offering the American people hope and progress, while a stubborn President responds with roadblocks.

Funny. All the heroes of 9-11, the firefighters and police, were union members. Want to tell me how you really feel about their work ethic?

Before unions, people could be worked 10 or more hours a day, 6 days a week, in whatever kind of miserable conditions employers felt like offering. You have unions to thank for 40 hour workweeks, two days off per week, and living wages. Experience has long shown that employees making a living wage contribute tremendously to economic growth, and that employers freed of constraint exploit their employees.

He was talking about funding stem cell research.

But isn't he spending $200 million/yr of our tax dollars to destroy human life in Iraq? Doesn't that count?

Suggestions wanted. The wife claims that American law enforcement processes are so biased against people of color that justice is impossible. She refuses to suggest what to do about it other than to accept at face value even accusations such as the recently disproved claims against the Duke University lacrosse players. [She's defending the actions of the now dis-barred District Attorney.]

My counter position is that in the case in question, the government in the person of the District Attorney ignored both the lack of facts and (a month later) exonerating evidence. I'm supporting giving judges the authority to over-rule prosecutors and juries when they've clearly ignored the evidence or decided in opposition to the evidence.

Ok ... does she have a point? If so, what actions or reorganizations of law enforcement can be implemented so that "justice", both individual and collective, will prevail?

GL ... you'll need some thinking on this one.

...give up the Liberal things such as.....clean air and water standards, worker safety protections, the 40 hour work week, the social security program, the civil rights movement, the equal rights movement, the free speech movement, discrimination protections, the school lunch program, birth control, rural electrification, organized labor, child labor laws, minimum wage, employee health care benefits, public assistance, Americans with Disabilities Act, fair housing legislation, the Freedom of Information Act, the Voting Rights Act, food and drug safety regulations, federally subsidized student loans, collective barganing....and everything else we have done to put power back in the hands of the individual and out of the hands of the ruling and corporate elite?

Would you be willing to? All or nothing, get rid of the Liberals and you have to give up what the Liberals worked for that benefit you also. Would you be willing?

I found a few hundred nukes and a program built by spies working against America.

I hope America is credible about removing WMDs from the Middle East and confronting spies working against the United States.

Map of where the WMDs / Nukes can be found:

The recent bill which was passed in the house, but is set for veto by GWB,(http://www.yahoo.com/s/608546), aimed to ease restrictions on federal funding for stem cell research. It also outlined a policy for which stem cells could be obtained, stored, and usage....whereas, they would have to be harvested from embryo's that would have been otherwise discarded anyway, and with the donor's consent. This is where I do not understand the argument against stem cell harvesting. Procedures such as invetro-fertilization, which is very common, produces hundreds of embryo's which are subsequently destroyed. These are the very embryo's that scientists want to use.

My question is.....if they are going to be destroyed in the bio-medical waste container anyway....why shouldn't they be used to help find cures for diseases and possibly save thousands of lives ?

Where is George W. Bush's logic on this ? We all get that he is pro-life, but I have yet to hear a valid argument on stem cell issues.

I was fired whilst still in probationary period. Reasons given were bad attitude towards my team & non communication to my line manager. I refuted this & have spoken to my team since being fired, with several members saying they would happily argue that this was not the case.

The letter given to me on the day states "further to our meeting" yet all points were obviously written prior to it.

No previous opportunity was given to discuss any of the points.

On three prior occasions I had requested a review with my line manager to improve communication and had provided, in writing, my available dates but had no reply.

I had also highlighted to my line manager that I had not been provided with any clear targets or goals.

I was very succesful in my role, however, and took sales from £200/day to £6,500/ day over the 4 weeks.

I feel my line manager who conducted the meeting saw me as a threat and conducted a witch hunt agaist my better character.
What are my rights please?

It looks like many people lump all immigrants into the same category. They are not ALL causing trouble for the USA. We should deport the ones that turn to criminal activity, (I don't mean just breaking the law of entering the country illegally; I mean if they start to assault, rob, get into gangs, start dog fights, etc.) We can't deport the U.S. citizens that are career criminals (unfortunately), but the law that deports immigrants that are felons could be tightened to include some misdemeanors, too.
Unfortunately they'll probably spend months thinking of a simple solution that considers all immigrants the same. This all-or-nothing thinking is why there's a lack of wisdom in our legal system today.
Those who say illegal immigrants don't pay taxes have forgotten about sales tax, gasoline tax, tobacco tax, etc.
Those who point at immigrants for all the problems are really narrow. Point at "outsourcing" for a while. Big corps screw us more than immigrants.
