I only ask this question because for some reason I have this masochistic tendency to be abused and I am sure this question will bring all the ignorance out of the walls of the 50 states.

I think I am liberal in thatI think the environment should be clean and the gov should use enforcement on that issue , gays deserve equal rights, people in the Americas deserve to earn more than poverty wages, multi million dollar corps and thier ceos need to give a little instead of just taking ex dont steal pensions and reduce benifits, the elected leadersha ve a responsibility to the people not just big buissness, LOOK the bottom line is ,I care about people not just myself and people like me, and every one has some sort of liberalism in them even hard core conservatives, and most definitions of both are meant to divide the people and draw attention away from the issues that will allow all of us to live a better life poor and rich white and black and brown ONE PEOPLE TOGETHER CAN MAKE THE AMERICAS A BETTER PLACE united we stand divided we fall

In reality there is no such thing as a liberal, nor is there a conservative. Both represent opposite schools of thought. However, people are people, nothing more, nothing less. Liberal and Conservative are merely ideologies. I have actually meant very few people in my life that are so slanted to the right or left that they could be considered absolutes of their chosen ideology. Most people exist in the middle ground and often the level of slant depends wholly on the issue being discussed at the time.

Now if you want to discuss the concept of what liberalism is, that is a different matter. I could explain my thoughts on the subject, but I think it would be better to allow people who believe in that ideology to do so as I am sure they would give a more thorough and passionate explanation than I could ever hope to.

There are many varying definitions for a liberal, but the one most people attach to liberals and liberalism in the US I think is that they advocate a greater degree of government influence to protect individual rights, and support more programs of public welfare and medical aid and housing aid, paid for by progressive taxation.

Liberals share a belief in individual rights, free enterprise, representative democracy, and the rule of law. In this sense, almost all Americans accept liberal ideals, so much so that it is easy to forget how revolutionary these ideals were when the American Constitution was written. Jefferson said "peace, commerce, and honest friendship with all nations, entangling alliances with none." All of our founding fathers considered liberalism a foundation of “the grand experiment”, America. In our era, liberalism has been derided to appear weak and elitist, and, our military is used to enter entangling alliances with some. Think liberal, think BIG!

In my opinion a "liberal" is a state of mind. Just like a "conservative" is. The divide is mostly based on stances one takes regarding taxes, abortion, health care, privacy, defense, immigration, homosexuality, gun control, religion and so on.
