A friend says i am being selfish for wanting to take a cruise in December and then enlisting instead of enlisting ASAP. I figure this may the last time I ever get to take a cruise and it would be a fun memory before the rigors of basic. I also wanted to spend a final Christmas with my family.
What do you ppl think? Is it selfish not to go ahead and enlist now?

Palestine, Iraq, or Dark Age Europe?

I would have to say palestine. Dark Age Europe is so long ago. The conflict between the right-wing fundamentalist group Hamas and secular Fatah is happening right now. Terrorist have a stronghold in palestine, because these people brainwash children with religious indoctrination in the schools. Now that they have introduced religion in government, all hell is breaking loose.

Dems are not in control of the government, the House, or the Senate.

When it's 51% to 49% in Congress, that means that you will ultimately have to rely on Republicans to sign off on them as well. Dems don't tow the party line typically, so there are always Democratic legislators who will vote the other way.

The President is what? That's right, Republican.

The VP is what? You guessed it, he's Republican too!

Bush can veto and has vetoed nearly every bill that's come across his desk. When he vetoes something, both the House and the Senate have to come back with 2/3 majority of the bill dies.

If you want to discuss politics, and this particular issue of "Dems have control....haven't done anything", I'd highly suggest you familiarize yourself with the way our government operates.

Dems do NOT have control of the government. And the final say is Republican on top of it.

"I believe in an America where the separation of church and state is absolute--where no Catholic prelate would tell the President (should he be Catholic) how to act, and no Protestant minister would tell his parishioners for whom to vote--where no church or church school is granted any public funds or political preference--and where no man is denied public office merely because his religion differs from the President who might appoint him or the people who might elect him. "

"I believe in an America that is officially neither Catholic, Protestant nor Jewish--where no public official either requests or accepts instructions on public policy from the Pope, the National Council of Churches or any other ecclesiastical source--where no religious body seeks to impose its will directly or indirectly upon the general populace or the public acts of its officials--and where religious liberty is so indivisible that an act against one church is treated as an act against all. "

which Democratic Party are they glamorizing and which Democratic Party are they bashing?

I think it's pretty obvious they are bashing the liberal wing of the Democratic Party. Who does that leave? It leaves the good old boy RACIST, southern, CONSERVATIVE Democrats of the past.

"The name given to a group of conservative southern Democratic Senators, and one Republican Senator (John Tower of Texas), who opposed passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The southern bloc was led by Senator Richard Russell of Georgia."

don't get me wrong, if you have the desire to enlist and serve our country, your a hero and a great asset to society and freedom.

But personally I can't see why an 18 year old kid right out of high school would join the military. I mean you get sent off from everyone you love, are surronded by 99% males (and you can't join if your gay, so there's no advantage to this either way)
and you don't get to experiance all the partying and general beligerent drunkenness of college.

Why would a young man in today's world of alcohol, sex, and general fun choose to give up a set number of years of their life for the military?

If you had served in the military, what drove you to do it?

President Bush's Defense Secratary Robert Gates said yesterday that Iran's government (Shiite) is supplying the Taliban (Sunni) weapons in Afghanistan.

Is this yet another propaganda campaign, first the lies about WMDs in IRAQ-now IRAN is the new boogie man, to keep the United States in ever more Military Wars in the Middle East?

The commander of NATO forces in Afghanistan, Gen. McNeill, contradicted Gates and implied that the arms trafficking from Iran is being carried out by private interests, not the government of Iran. "[W]hen you say weapons being provided by Iran, that would suggest there is some more formal entity involved in getting these weapons here," he told Jim Loney of Reuters June 5. "That's not my view at all."
