Democratic House 100 Hour pledge
1)Put new rules in place to "break the link between lobbyists and legislation." - legislation passed
2)Enact all the recommendations made by the commission that investigated the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.-legislation passed
3)Raise the minimum wage to $7.25 an hour, maybe in one step- legislation passed.
4)Cut the interest rate on student loans in half.-legislation passed
5) Allow the government to negotiate directly with the pharmaceutical companies for lower drug prices for Medicare patients-legislation passed.
6)Broaden the types of stem cell research allowed with federal funds - legislation passed- Bush vetoed
"Pay as you go," meaning no increasing the deficit, whether the issue is middle class tax relief, health care or some other priority.
Things have stalled in the Senate where there is just a razor thin majority and legislation such as stem cell research does not have the veto proof majority needed to make it law.
So don't bit*h that they did nothing. The House did what they pledged to do

Well since one of them was to fund and protect our troops and your President vetoed it - I wouldn't be too loud about it.
Since what Bush and a Republican congress managed to do together in 7 years is create record debty - push average weekly earnings backwards, increase poverty, lower the standard of our education (no child left behind ha ha) and start an illegal war of aggression - perhaps doing nothing is actually quite an achievement. We have at least stopped the backward momentum.
We'll get plenty done after 2008.

Bush Veto Power
Here's an example:
"Stem Cell Bill Easily Clears Senate But Lacks Votes to Override a Veto" (when Bush vetoes a bill the senate needs more senators to override the veto).
The dems only have 51% of the Senate.
That's a really simplistic answer, but it's the best BASIC answer I can offer.

P.S. yes, righty, i knew it was a rhetorical question, but thought you may want an honest answer.

That's a good question. I don't know the answer but I'll bet if you ask Pelosi, she'd say it's GW's fault. Isn't everything W's fault? Like the sky being blue, the grass being green, global warming, hundreds of school buses being flooded during a hurricane when they could have been used to SAVE people.

they spent about 160 hours, working 3 or 4 hour days, acting like fools. I watched much of it. Then they "celebrated" not getting anything done (getting a bill to the President's desk, after he said he would veto if it still had all the pork) acting as if they accomplished something.
When nancy pelosi was confronted about the pork in the bill by a reporter saying, "this bill is full of pork, didn't you say you wouldn't do this?", she awkwardly avoided it by saying something like, "I never said I wasn't going to help this country", and stepped back from the reporters allowing the others to hide her from confrontation.

You're confusing Democrat election strategy with actual governance. They promise everything to get elected. Once elected, ha ha. Psych!
Re-election strategy: Blame getting nothing done on Republican conspiracies and obtructionism.
While everyone runs around insulting "the other side", nobody notices that neither side is getting anything done.
