The electoral college was debated over and decided upon at the Constitutional Convention in 1787. What were the reasons for choosing this system over other choices and what has changed since then that makes the electoral college seem outdated?

I think that the Founders didn't trust that the people could make an educated decision by themselves and therefore gave the power to the electors. But, these days travel is easier, there are newspapers, radio, and tv for educating purposes; what other reasons are there for the abolishment of the electoral college?

I've heard a lot of people blame the Katrina victims for their predicament. WHY?!!! Most of the people whose corpses we saw floating in the water were too poor to be able to afford transportation to get out of New Orleans. Also, I even heard that Amtrak offered to transport people out of there before the storm hit, but the mayor turned them down. Even if some people did have the opportunity to leave, but didn't, let's STILL have some compassion here and not blame them all for their fate!

Or a woman? for the leaders of the free world we've been very sterotypical on our choice of leaders. Canadians, British, Indians, they've had a woman lead their countries ages ago, yet we've managed to avoid this......how's that?

Consider that since 1962, federal revenue from progressive taxes (in which higher income people pay a higher tax percentage than lower income) dropped by 17%. Federal income from regressive taxes (which place a higher burden on those with lower income) increased by 135%. Since 1980, taxes on inheritance and investment have dropped by 31% while taxes on income derived from work have increased by 25%. Between 2000 and 2003, corporations (the institutions that perpetuate and insulate the plutocracy) saw their contribution to federal revenue through taxes fall by 36%. Bush's corporate tax cuts of 2002 and 2003 made this corporate wet dream possible. His individual tax cuts between 2002 and 2004 were a propaganda ploy to buy votes and ensure that the financial oligarchy retained a strangle-hold on the US government. Average working Americans received rebate checks of $400.00. $600 billion dollars in tax cuts went to those earning more than $288,000 per year. To ice the cake, the wealthiest 1% of Americans received $197 billion dollars in additional tax breaks. That means that each of those lucky plutocrats enjoyed a staggering $56.3 million in tax relief, but don't worry. In theory, they put that money back into the economy and it will "trickle down" to the rest of us. I have not been trickled upon yet. Have you?

It has long been stated that what caused the ice age was volcanic smoke in the air which filtered out the sun light and made things cooler. So alongs comes The E P A and puts in a no burn ban and takes out what smoke that there was in the air letting in more sun light which is making things hotter, and to compound the problem the things which should have been burned is now rotting and giving off methane gas which causes more global warming. It should also be noted that the catalytic converter demanded by the EPA makes CO2 gas the one main thing that is supposed to cause Global Warming

my husband is looking to try and enter the military (either coast guard or navy). we are married and have one child. but before he contacts a recruiter i need to know some truth. recruiters will say ANYTHING to get you signed up and then when or in, your stuck no matter if he bold face lied or not. so, how much do you think he would receive monthly and is the housing on base as GREAT as they make it seem (with all the huge two story houses in cute, quiet neighborhoods) or is it a crock?

Western European teens have fewer pregnancies, and lower levels of STDs than their American counterparts. Why?

- Because European teens have easy access to contraceptives, confidential health care and comprehensive sex education.

- Because teen reproductive health is treated as a public health issue, not a political or religious one.

- Because mass media is a partner, not a problem. The European message is simple: respect and protect yourself and your partner.

Almost a million American teenagers become pregnant each year, resulting in almost 500,000 births, 125,000 miscarriages and 264,000 abortions.

Isn't time to scrap the ineffective "abstinence programs," get over our conservative "morality" and get real about teen sexuality?

Sex education needs to start in the home environment and be continued in primary school. You would not allow a parent to withdraw their children from math or English lessons; neither should they be allowed to withdraw them from sex education.

I try to be fair in 90% of my accusations. I am not perfect so I am guilty of throwing all people in general categories at times. However, the majority of the time I will use words such as SOME, MOST, NOT ALL, AND FAR LEFT to describe liberals I am talking about. However, when I ask a question, it is like SOME just throw those words right out the window and accuse me of insulting them? Why is this? Is there so much emotion in debate, that SOME of you read the question quickly, or do SOME of you just not care?

The videos in this link show Russian tanks and armour spear heading into prestina in the kosovo war. This was the incident where the american general wesly clark ordered the British and French commanders to attack the Russians,in which they replied "we are not going to start a third world war for you". isn't it astonishing how a so called super power tells other countries to attack when they are supposed to be a super power and take the lead. I guess this only means u.s are all hype, hideing behind europe when the going gets tough.Thank god it was the bravery and courage of the Soviet Union who defeated nazi germany and freed europe and not the u.s, other wise everyone in europe would be speaking in german.what do people think?

most of the Bush haters themselves can't even form complete sentences? Most Bush haters only have like 12 words in their vocabulary. A few of the advanced can even double that into the 24 word vocabulary system. The 12 words are Bush, lie, lied, lying, lies, impeach, idiot, terrorist, moron, stole, Florida, and Clinton. Why don't Bush haters learn to expand their vocabulary?
