Agreed. As a 30 year veteran of law enforcement I have seen enough of the poor slob that has to use a Public Defender get a defense that is at best lacking. While the connected defendant walks from the same offense. I agree the Government should not be in the Health Care business. It can only increase cost and corruption.

Well, everyone says socialized healthcare would be a disaster, and they may be right, but the current system doesn't work too well either. Massuchusetts and some other states have been experimenting with making health insurance mandatory, but partially subsidizing low income workers who can't afford to pay for insurance on top of everything else. If that works, it may be what the goverment needs to do for the country as a whole.

one has nothing to do with the other. We need to fix both. However, we currently have major problems in the healthcare system that need to be addressed.

For example, we force hospitals to take patients who cannot afford to cover their own healthcare in an emergency. However, the government does not reimburse these funds on a dollar for dollar basis. If we are going to force hospitals to take people, they should not be forced to take a loss.

We also force people who have no insurance to rely on the emergency room for their healthcare. If we allowed these people to get preventive care, their treatments would cost less and it would be less of a burden on the system.

If we live in a society where people cannot be healthy, how can we say that it is "just"?

I think we could fix a lot of things by getting rid of Bush.

Changes to government should be made off limits as long as they are in power.
