Her Majesties Service?

Royal Majesties Service?

ROTFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

( which means rolling on the floor laughing my ---- off)

As only ONE other poster said.....HMS is a Royal Navy ship, and the abriev stands for His /Her Majesties Ship, depending on whether a King or Queen sits on the throne......

RMS is Royal Mail Ship ( or originally Steamer) it is a civilian ship, not part of the RN.....it is a British......and only British.....ship with a contract from the Royal Mail to carry mail......there is no US equivalent; SS stands for Steam Ship and is used for any nationality ship powered by steam

Navy constructed ships are registered as "HMS" or His/Her Majesty's Ship.

Commerical Ships, like the Titanic, for example are registered as mail carriers or "RMS" Royal Mail Steamer (Ship).

There is similar registry system in the USA.
Navy ships: USS
Commerical vessels: SS
