I though it meant " that someone acted with the intent of hurting or killing someone" I Read something that compared the act with throwing a bomb into a restaurant. but my professor says I have the incorrect understanding of the meaning , and I can't find a good definition online.

Alcohol is nearly as harmful as heroin and tobacco is more dangerous than cannabis, LSD or ecstasy, according to a new classification table of drugs published in The Lancet medical journal Friday.

The table, drawn up by a group of leading British scientists, ranked heroin, cocaine, barbiturates and street methadone as the most harmful drugs, closely followed by alcohol in fifth place.

Tobacco was assessed to be the ninth most dangerous drug behind ketamine -- commonly used as a horse tranquilizer -- benzodiazepines, which are prescription tranquillisers, and amphetamines.

Cannabis was said to be the 11th most harmful. LSD was ranked 14th and so-called "clubbers' drug" ecstasy in 18th, or third last, place.

The classifications were based on individual drugs' so-called "harm scores" -- the physical damage to the user; how likely the drug was to induce dependency; and the effect of its use on families, communities and society.

Each of the three categories was split into nine categories of risk and independent experts including psychiatrists, chemists and forensic scientists ranked each category on a scale from 0 ("no risk") to 3 ("extreme risk").

Heroin scored 2.7 on the harm scale with alcohol just under 2. Tobacco scored 1.7 and ecstasy scored just over 1.1.

One of the scientists, Professor Colin Blakemore, the chief executive of the government-funded public health body the Medical Research Council, said their findings differed markedly from the existing drugs classification in Britain.

"Alcohol and tobacco are way up there in the league table, with alcohol being not very far behind demonised terrors of the street like heroin," he said.

His colleague, Professor David Nutt, from the University of Bristol, western England, said isolated cases of unpleasant and unpredictable responses to drugs were allowed to dictate policy.

"A more scientific view is that these risks have to be assessed against their effect on the whole population," he added.

Possessing Class A drugs like heroin, cocaine and crack, ecstasy and LSD currently carries a maximum seven-year prison sentence; cannabis is a Class C drug, while alcohol and tobacco are unclassified.

Blakemore said he hoped policy makers would "take note" that their table differed substantially from the official classification, which a separate British study published on March 8 also criticised as inadequate.

The RSA Commission on Illegal Drugs, Communities and Public Policy said Britain's drug laws should be replaced by a system recognising the harm to health of substances like alcohol and tobacco rather than crime prevention.

A couple of people have told me that there is a listing of Christian Activists (and others) that is kept for human resources and employers of government agencies and any company who is willing to pay for it, to view. That they just have to enter a name, with city and state and it compares the name to different activists agendas. They also said that they got the information every time a person answered a poll on-line.

I was wondering if anyone else may have knowedge of this activity and WHY they would do this. It just seems to me that more than 4 years of not being able to get a decent job is way too long. I usually do the letters to senators from the web site Numbers USA, Family Research Council in Washington and The American Family Association.

anointed by God - as Bush sez to become Policemen for the World?

Isn't it about time that we started looking after our own people and attempt to resolve our own problems?

Isn't it about time that "WE" the people damand that the Bush
government become a government Of the people, By the people and For the People as we were asked by Lincoln over 142 years ago instead of a Government Of the Special Interest Groups, By the Special Interest Groups, and For the Special Interest Groups like the Republicans have done!

And why do we have to go to Foreign lands to kill Terrorists there when we have hundreds of our people killed by Terrorists here in America every day?

I hear liberals whining all the time about the poor in America and how rough it is. I myself am poor right now because I'm going to school to get an education and not be poor. Something I noticed though about being poor in America. Us poor people have microwave ovens, DVD players, the food there if you want it, VCR's, some even have SUV's. People are not starving here in America. Poor people have it good when compared to other countries. But liberals are so ungratful and can't take responsibility for their own decisions. To them it's "if it feels good do it" and then when they get into a mess, their victims. I made some bad choices in life and I'm paying, but with hard work and good decisions, I'll be OK! God Bless America!!!!

Any work that was done was crapy like the dishwasher, it was put in poorly it falls out when anyone opens it. the door was not properly installed when I moved in. There is mold in the walls, they wouldnt do anything about it. What should I do or say? I dont want money I just dont want to pay for there poor maintenance.

I thought about going to med school a few times as an emergency surgeon, but then thought against it cause my hands are just a little too shaky. Now I am a little more glad that I decided against it since there is this threat of a Universal Health Care system.

I have to say that one of the most scary parts about the whole deal is this health care system will put the government in control of doctors wages... What happens to the doctors if this fails like it has shown to fail in the past?

I also dislike the idea of non med doctors who think they know what is best for the future of health care. I'll 100% agree with generic medicines, but it's a sad country when we choose the generic doctor approach.

Many people put people in the military on a pedestal. I've even talked with many WWII soldiers and it's amazing the amount of respect many of them have for the German soldiers of WWII.

I was wondering .... do you view those that serve as being valiant or ... do you look at each one individually ???

people who are pro-marijuana legalization often say that the rate of violent crimes which involve alcohol is MUCH greater than the rate of violent crimes involing marijuana.

i've scoured many a government website, googling for hours, unable to find any support of this claim.

anyone have a reliable (ie: not wikipedia) source of statistics regarding violent crimes and specific drugs involved?

(note: there are many graphs/charts which compile drug-related crimes, but they do NOT include alcohol. likewise, the alcohol-related charts often lump all drugs [including marijuana] into one category. i'm searching for a specific alcohol VS marijuana figure.)

We all know that it is all a play of words anyway?
Halliburton will remain there as a needed support.,as well as other foreign companies. The oil interests will also remain.
The word "Combat"(troops) will soften and become the "opposition troops" or a needed "security task force?"..

Today's headline reads:
"Republicans Soften Stance on Pullout Language
GOP Senators Willing To Let Bush Confront Iraq Timetable Issue"
Washington Post
Tuesday, March 27, 2007;

Unwilling to do the White House's heavy lifting on Iraq, Senate Republicans are prepared to step aside to allow language requiring troop withdrawals to reach President Bush, forcing him to face down Democratic adversaries with his veto pen.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.) announced the shift in strategy yesterday, as the chamber took up a $122 billion war spending package that includes a target date of March 31, 2008, for ending most COMBAT operations in Iraq.
