We know how much Republicans love Keynesian economics, as long as the government spending that "primes the pump" goes to destroying foreign things and not building things here.

Federal Holidays in California

I work in a small mortgage company and Im not too familiar with the government laws concerning labor. Today, february the 19th, is a federal holiday and no escrow companies, or banks are open therefore no work for us. Is there anything unlawful of this.
Is there any mandatory holiday premium pay?
I would really appreciate some feedback.
Thank you

I was just wondering how many people out here really think that Democrats will cut off funds to the troops? I saw Tony Snow on tv the other day and he said,"If the Dems really believe the war is wrong, then all they have to do is cut off the funds." I think that Bush and his cronies are trying to get the Congress to cut off funds so they can turn around and blame the Democrats when the war continues to get worse. I honestly hope the Democrats are not stupid enough to fall for this. I say, give Bush all the rope he wants to hang his presidency, then clean up the mess in '08.

For spectacles to be sold via a shop in the UK does there have to be a registered Dispensing optician present. I know the law has been relaxed somewhat but cant find the exact info on the legality of the sale of specs. As far as i know you have to be atleast a dispensing optician to sell to under 16`s, but what about everyone else. Any info on this subject would be a great help

Some people speak of 'economic inequality' as if this is a problem.

I guess maybe they'd feel better if a doctor and a janitor both made the same amount of money, drove the same car and lived in the same type of home.

What sense does that make?

I'm most likely going to go to jail for 30 days for simply drinking. MC, I'm 20. We have news reports constantly bombarding us and politicians requesting huge budget increases to alleviate jail overcrowding. It seems this problem would be solved by simply reducing the amount of jail sentences and increasing the amount of fines. Marijuana, prescription drug and underage alcohol users could all be given fines and community service which would positively affect our community and reduce the load on our wallets through jail overcrowding. Why should we spend money isolating and ruining the lives of people with vices when we can make money and leave these "criminals" outside of the untouchable caste in civilized society.

Why do so many people think jail is an appropriate solution to such minor problems as marijuana, prescription abuse and underage (18-20) alcohol consumption. It's like trying to kill a fly with a shotgun. Way too harsh, way too arbitrary and way too unjust. This is law?

he was in the Army. While trying to make things better for the people he was put in Jail where he wrote a book that was a best seller at the time. He rose through the ranks of his party and was able to completely wiipe out inflation in his country by putting people back to work and then he staved off a serious depression by being instrumental in the development of the country and economy. He did not smoke or drink in excess.

He never lied to the people and years after his death was voted as one of the greatest statemen of the last century.

Any guesses as who it was?

I have a friend who works at a wine bar as a server and a group of people at one table walked out without paying their bill. Her employer says she has to pay their bill. Is this legal? Is there anything she can do besides quit? Or even if she does quit is there some legal action she can persue? If you can, please provide a link to a site that would deal with these types of laws. We reside in Washington state. Thanks!
