I guess it seems like a weird question, but I go to a SUNY school and found at (through my Comp Sci teacher) that, come the end of the spring semester, the school is closing down the computer labs.

I personally could have cared less, but what caught my attention was when he said they're going to outright dispose of the computers. Not recycle them, not donate them to charity/schools, they're going to throw them in the garbage (as they've aparently been doing for quite some time).

I find this outrageous for two reasons: the impact those computers will make on the environment by sitting in a dump; and the idea of just throwing away fairly new, working computers (we're talking Apple G5 towers and 2 year old Dell Optiplexes). So, I was hoping to "rescue" a few of these computers come the end of the semester.

Just one concern: what are the laws surrounding this kind of thing, taking garbage from a state entity?

"Without our two great political parties cutting across economic and geographic interests, democracy as we know it could never have been made to function." The author of this statement probably meant to suggest that

a) political parties in the United States tend to represent sectional interests

b) each political party appeals to a different social class

c) there is no significant difference between the Democratic and Republican parties

d) an important feature of the U.S. political system is the broadly based appeal of the two political parties

e) only a two-party system can function in a democracy

Rednecks who live in trailer parks and are on welfare vote for the Republicans, even though the Republicans are a Rich Man's political party. Does this make any sense?

We conservatives will pay for the Iraq war.

In return, you will pay for the stuff we don't use: social security, medicare, medicaid, etc.

Sound fair?

All you hear from cons is how "Christian" they are, how much they have an exclusivity on morality and then exemplify it with hate, rage, insults and other nonsense.

How exactly are republicans "Christian", as they claim, when they flush most of what Christ taught?

I know JFK said "Ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country. "

But I wanted to know what your country has given you for free or at nominal cost.

Do you think it should be illegal to smoke in your house or car when children are present?

I can't believe this topic has not yet been defined by law. Why should children suffer because of adults' vile habits?

I've been working in the States on A-2 visa as Network Administrator for an embassy (not my home country embassy) for six years. Few companies are willing to sponsor my H1B and consequently, Green Card. Can I obtain H1B while maintaining my A-2 visa? I'm willing to surrender my A-2 once I start working on H1B.

Also, if the answer to the previous question is yes, then I have another question. If the company files for my H1B in April then can I obtain EAD to work until I get the visa in Oct?
