daddy got him out of Vietnam combat by getting him into the National Guard (they didn't go to Vietnam back then) & ironically Bush sends most of the US national guard units into combat in Iraq. I wonder what US troop families would say?

I purchased a second-hand CD online. It is new, still in the plastic wrap, but there is a small hole punched through the upper left corner of the case. I have never seen this before, and I thought it was really weird. I don't know if it was on a hook and torn off, or what. Do you think it could be stolen? I don't want to open it until I know for sure.

I was wondering if there is a way to buy land (government or not) in a way that, that government disowns it and no longer claims it.

EXAMPLE: let's say that cuba is 50 square miles ( I have no idea how many square miles it is, it is just an example) and i bought 1 sqare mile and cuba disowned it, cuba will still physically have 50 square miles but will only own 49. No I am not trying to over throw government of any kind in any where of any kind just currious. Celebs buy islands all the time, but the gov techically still owns it in terms of taxes, what country it belongs to...

Actually this happened to my parents, they rented a stall at a canteen in an industrial building and now the management of the building is buying back the canteen from the current owner of the canteen (the main drinks stall operator). My parents paid a $4K deposit several years back when they first started their biz, but the current owner did not issue any receipt. Other stall holders also paid the deposit, in deferring amounts. My question is, is there anyway I can get the deposit back? Can I file with the Small Claims Court? My parents have tried to ask from the current owner for it but he claims he's too poor to pay them back. Would bringing him to court subject him to declare bankruptcy?

While listening to the police scanner, I can't help wonder (as us P.I.'s do), what happens to the people who attempt suicide and are stopped by the police arriving? I hear on the scanner an ambulance called and they take the person to the hospital. Do they go to the psych ward after they are okayed by the ER? Do they have to stay there? Are charges filed against them? Do they check out ok and go home? Thanks for answering and satisfying my curiousity. Also, I live in IL and cannot figure out why people won't use their turn signals??KK#L%

if someone is being re-housed by the police because they have been getting trouble and serious death threats can that person tell them they don't wanna move? Surely they can't be forced to move out of the area if they don't want to? They wanted to move in the beginning, the police have been searchin for a suitable place for a month or so, is it possible to phone up and say they no longer want to go? The reason would be a very good job oportunity.

It seems no one is willing to answer my question. I know there are several intelligent Republican & Conservative posters out there, so I would appreciate your input.

Ive seen many of you insist you don't care what our allies/former allies think about our foreign policy.

My question is is it feasible for Americans to fight a war on "terror" when none of our allies or former allies will contribute to the war effort?

Doesn't ostracizing other countries leave us at a severe disadvantage when it comes to World Wars or Global efforts, seeing as we'll be forced to bear the brunt of the loss of life & monetary cost? How long do you feel Americans will allow their country to fall deeper and deeper into debt, & allow their troops to die w/ no assistance?

Reps believe strongly in the "War on Terror" but don't give a moments hesitation to how our foriegn policy has put us at a severe disadvantage in fighting it. Can we really "go it alone" against "terrorism" and still succeed?

our family will move to eglin around jul 1 this year. thoughts on cities to check out (OR stay clear of) when looking for housing? we'd prefer a < 20 min commute each way (with traffic...).

are there any children's hospitals in that area (off base)? not all hospitals are staffed/equipped to care for pediatric emergancies.

we may still be there when our daugther turns 5 yrs - thoughts on school districts?

lastly - anyone have insight on midwives in that area? anyone do a homebirth there?
