They don't understand that that little bundle of cells is actually a person. One of the Smithsonian museums (which one, people?) has on display a series of embryos starting with just a few days old. It really helps you realize, when you see those tiny little people, that that in fact is what they are.

First of all...can I say, why are their so many MEN on here saying how bad abortion really is? Have any of you been pregnant when you are 16 years old, or been raped, or are just not ready to have and take care of a child? I highly doubt it. How is it any of your business what a women does with her body. Just think of your sisters, mothers, daughters...what would they do if a pregnancy resulted from a horrible mistake or a rape? What if the pregnancy was life threatning to the mother? What would THEY do?
Second, to answer your question as previously stated by many answerers, no one is pro-abortion, but pro-choice. They believe (which is just the logical thing to believe) that it is totally, 100% the womens choice to choose what they want to do with their body. A fetus could not live/survive outside of a uterus until at least 7 month. So if a women chooses not to continue with her pregnancy at 2 months, whose business is it to tell her not to? As for being anti death penalty, some people just think that a life for a life just isn't equal. I personally believe that if you kill some one out of cold blood, you deserve the same fate.

Just as you can be anti-abortion and pro-death penalty, it's possible to logically hold opposite view points on both issues.

The death penalty means killing a person, whereas abortion does not necessarily require this. Abortion supporters do not believe a person is formed at conception. The blastocyst becomes an embryo which becomes a fetus which then, sometime before birth (exactly when is a matter of debate) becomes a person. Killing a blastocyst or embryo is not killing a person (if it is, all invitro fertilization should be outlawed, as all IVF involves the creation and destruction of multiple unused embryos).

Also, it is possible to oppose the death penalty for reasons other than an absolute belief that thou shall not kill. Many people believe it is administered unfairly and/or that because our criminal justice system is not infallible, we should not kill convicts because we will (and have) undoubtedly ended up killing innocent people.

Yet again someone that doesn't understand the argument of abortion. I don't think that there are a lot of people that are pro abortion. There are people that are pro choice. This gives the woman the right to do whatever she wants with what's inside of her body. She can decide to have the baby and give it for adoption, or she can aborted if it is early enough. First trimester I think. Myself I do not like abortions. they are killing a human life just like the death penalty. You are ending a human life. It's like your playing God and deciding who lives and who dies here. Who are we to make those decisions. After all, we are all human therefore imperfect. At the same time, I am pro choice. It is the same reason why I hate the death penalty and abortions. Who am I to tell someone else what to do with what's inside of her body? Who am I to send this man/woman to die? That decision is only God's to make.

First, probably nobody today is pro-abortion. Conservatives were originally pro-abortion, because they thought it was a way to reduce welfare rolls; however, they changed their position when George Gilder insisted that abortion would tighten the cheap labor market.
When Roe v. Wade was decided, only one socially acceptable solution for a problem pregnancy existed. That solution was suicide, and it was the primary cause of death for pregnant women. Pro-choice persons often oppose abortion, but consider suicide, which puts an end to the existence of the fetus as well as the life of the pregnant woman, worse.
Nothing in the Bible prohibits abortion, but one passage places the viability of the fetus at a certain price, less than the price of the life of an adult woman.
Remember, God Himself sometimes performs abortions.
Almost everyone who opposes abortion believes in some exception or exceptions. For me, the exception exists when the fetus has no head, or for some similar reason, has no chance of living. For another person, the exceptions may be different. I feel I have no right to determine for another person what the exceptions might be.
Regarding capital punishment, my Christian belief is that Jesus of Nazareth, the Son of God, took on human nature to offer salvation for the sins of human beings. He could have brought that salvation by simply lowering Himself to human nature, living and teaching, and dying peacefully of old age. But in order to make clear that God was willing to forgive any kind of sin, even the greatest evil of which humans are capable, He allowed Himself to die as a result of that greatest evil. So what is it? Not abortion, not murder, not negligence causing an accident. All these take place when a human being is attempting to do something which he thinks will benefit himself in some way. The first, and greatest, of the Seven Deadly Sins is...Pride! Jesus died as a result of the pride by which a society of humans...as a society...arrogated to themselves God's privilege of judging who DESERVES to live or die. This is the greatest evil of which humans are capable.
Maybe this isn't strictly logical, because it's based greatly on faith. Of course, people will disagree with it. I am not trying to convince anyone, but only to explain a position, in case the intent of the question is really to understand.

This issue is not about left vs right. If you really want to find out some of the practical reasons to oppose the death penalty you should visit www.deathpenaltyinfo.org.

If, on the other hand, you prefer to make this about left vs. right, you will never get a meaningful answer. Check out the views of Senator Brownback, for example.

Some issues to look at- deterrance, effors, cost, innocence, victims family members, life without parole. These are practical, not moral things to consider. Many opponents of the death penalty oppose it because it is not an effective way of preventing crime and keeping us safe.

They believe that a fetus isn't a living being yet, so abortion is ok. (in terms of taking life). A convicted serial killer is alive, so his life is precious and should be preserved at all costs. Even if the first statement is true (which I don't believe)I think the punishment should fit the crime. If a guy killed 27 people (or whatever), he should get the death penalty.

It is because the pro abortion crowd doesn't think a fetus is alive or at least not worthy of any human rights. The fact that a "fetus" moves grows and reacts doesn't seem to make an impression.I ask them If life doesn't Begin at conception, then when?Six months?Eight months? Not until the cord is cut from the clearly moving and crying baby?

How come so many people who call themselves pro-life are still for the death penalty and Bush's handling of the War on Terror?

I'm pro-life, and to me, that means pro-life in every sense of it. I'm against abortion and the death penalty and the way our wars are being handled. I'm a liberal except for my position on abortion...however I don't think abortion should be banned completely until our government comes up with better solutions so women don't have as many reasons to get abortions (ex: better heathcare for children, a better child welfare network, better wages and more breaks for working mothers, more sex education, more access to free or cheap birth control, etc).

I'm a Dem but I disagree with my party here. My question is this: If abortion isn't a crime, how can Scott Peterson be charged with double murder for the killing of Lacy and the baby? I'm NOT condoning what he did, but just am amazed at the hipocrisy in the law
