My assessment is that they are two separate issues. But the focus on immigration is serving as a distraction--on two counts:
1) there are literally tens of thousands of business making illegal profits--and not payingtaxes on--ilegal immigrants.
2) by keeping the focus on the immigrants, politicians are obscuring the fact that the currentproblem is a direct result of their own policy failures--their failure to act on immigration reform--a failure that is driven by--and only--by the extensive "campaign contributions" they receive from the aforementioned businesses.

There has also been a subtle, but extremely campaign of scare tactics and misinformation directed at Americans--particularly blue-collear workers--to convince them that any move to rectify the situation (i.e., a guest worker/amnesty program) would open the door for low-paid immigrants to take theirjobs.

This current situation is a striking parallell to the tactics that have repeatedly been used in the past--as far back as the Irish immigration of the 1840--50s--to force immigrants into subordinate positions for the sake of the profits of dishonest businessmen--and to manupilate working people into becoming the unwitting pawns of such businessmen. There is no evidence, however, that htese immigrants will "take American jobs"--the jobs they already have are ones Americans don't want--and the only ones these immigrants are currently qualified for. No is theere any REAL evidence that they are the "criminal class" they've been portrayed as. They are no moreor less "criminal" than any other group in that socioeconomic range.

It's an old, sick story. Greedy individuals using the fears of otherwise decent American working people to cover for their own illegal and explotative abuses.

You know you're right that the war in Iraq is a huge issue, however the illegal immigrant issue is just as big an issue for the U.S. as the war in Iraq. You are ignorant if you think the MILLIONS of illegal aliens coming from one country is not going to have a long term effect on the United States.
Heck the government (well el presidente jorge bush at least) wants the illegals so he is not using that to distract you from the war. It's typically conservatives such as myself who bring up the issue of the illegals. Get your facts straight.

I am sure they would rather us pay attention to the war than the fact they are doing nothing to stop the flow of illegal immigrants into this country.

The government is in a quandry right now - if they do something to stop the illegal immigration, the people fighting for the rights of the poor immigrants will be pissed off and up in arms raising a stink. If they don't do something, the people against illegal immigration will vote them right out of office.

I am thinking that Iraq is a better place for them to be with the nation - at least they know where to stand on that one, and where they stand with the citizens of this country.

The reason why this illegal immigration thing is appearing in the news more and more frequently is because this debate makes great news. Reporters-the good reporters that is-know that the majority of the people in this country dislike illegal immigration. They know that we will read it and follow each word. Why? Because we feel, as individuals, the need to read to confirm our distrust.
Journalists believe it or not (and most people do not) can cleverly manipulate the public mind. Each story that is printed about illegals only fuels that hatred even more.

I hope this answers your question.

Why are you so spineless? When did you serve in a forward deployed combat position for your fellow countrymen?

I've been there and done that. Besides being a former member of special forces I served in the First Gulf War with numerous awards and decorations. Although I can't think of a better issue for liberals to grab onto than retreating from the war on terrorism.

When they do the first places that the Satanic Islamic terrorists will target for attack will be the major metropolitan areas in the United States. Since this territory is considered blue territory and typically votes for Demonrats it will be the leftwing lunatics who lead us in a hasty retreat that will hurt, rather than help, their own constituents. Until then, we have to hear them whine about it.

Back to your question. Although you said immigrants I'm certain you meant illegal immigrants. And to answer your question: the reason there has been any attention whatsoever on illegal immigration is because some people realize the damage it is doing to the United States.

These illegals clearly disrespect our laws. They also seem to disrespect our language. That's okay because I, in turn, systematically reject them and disrespect them as well.

They are bankrupting our hospitals and our public schools because they are receiving what they consider there fair share of services but are failing to pay their fair share for those same services.

The real reason liberals are in favor of supporting illegal immigration is because they desperately need the votes of those folks to further their political base. It's the same reason they come up with any program. All modern day liberalism is a copycat version of Germany's Bismarck. He designed his proposals to buy the support of the lower class of citizens in his day. The liberals buy votes with their silly programs to this day.

There are innocent little babies being murdered by Satanic Doctors and mothers who were so irresponsible in the first place. Why do liberals insist on murdering innocent little babies. Most reasonable people will concur that life, if it doesn't begin at conception, begins with a heartbeat...three days after conception. Why, when they continue to support the murder of innocent little babies do liberals run from a conversation about this?

Why do liberals, supposedly the party of the people, continue to support the private ownership of the Federal Reserve System. Why does the liberal media fail to cover this issue at any depth whatsoever?

Most rank and file Demonrats are unaware of the fact that their party is a party controlled by the rich. Either they are uneducated and ignorant or they are covering up the issue and playing the blame game by focusing on distracting the American people from the real mission in Iraq and Afghanistan and using it for political purposes.

The death's of American service personnel, while tragic, are necessary today for the price of your cherished freedom tommorrow. Without continuing to fight on their soil, and keep the Satanic Islamic terrorists on the cut and run, they will come here. Many more Americans will die, if liberals feign a retreat and surrender to the terrorists simply because of a lack of spine and resolve by whiners who are probably watching too much television to begin with.

No, immigration is a huge topic. Before the war is over, a lot of our population might be illegal so we need to take action NOW and figure out a way to get most of them gone.... Of course we know there's a war going on but we need to worry about our country as well. We can't turn our cheeks to something that is happening basically right on our porch...

I'm not for the war but I don't think the war has anything to do with unfettered and undocumented people streaming across our borders. "Immigrants" go through the proper channels to come and stay in this country. I know of no one that has an issue with the ability of people to come here legally, its what this country is founded on....but there is nowhere it is written that we should be subjected by the invasionary tactics of other nations peoples into our country without the right to be able to defend ourselves from its obvious negative effect on our socio-economic being...

Who said, all the attention is placed only on immigration? The government has to focus on everything including immigration.. Immigration is an important issue too.

I don't think immigration is as big a deal the gov't treats it. Lest they forget, our founding fathers had to immigrate here too. And I don't believe they had to learn about the history of the Natives and be named certified citizens by the natives either. The so called, "illegal immigrants" aren't really taking "american" ppl's jobs either. How many of you guys want to work in the back of a Vietnamese restaurant? I agree with you, i think the gov't is trying to distract us.

No, I think the opposite. I think the government and media who have their own agenda (pro big business) have been trying to cover up the impact of illegal immigration until it got so huge it could no longer be fudged.

Our schools are being RUINED. Do you really think parents don't NOTICE that?
