Jobs, most of the problems of the homeless are economic. If given training and in some cases were treated for their mental illness or alcoholism many could become responsible tax paying citizens, but the repuglican government ignores this need. As a matter of fact they are the ones that have closed down so many mental hospitals and turned these people out on the street. Most of America are only a paycheck or two from living under the bridge, but condemn those that do. It is part of the shame of the repuglican party that they will never admit too.

There are many social programs to help the homeless get on their feet.
http://www.hud.gov/homeless/index.cfm
This website is dedicated to helping people who struggle finding a meal. Many people say that the government is not helping the homeless issue, yet they refuse to raise taxes. We can't straddle the line between capitalistic and socialist. If we want to truly avoid these situations, then we buck up - and take taxes like countries in Europe do.
Simple as that. Not republican or liberal ideas here. We have to go to Europe for something so radical and, GASP, effective.

The government should provide low cost housing for those who cannot afford but the applicants must be screened to prevent those who has money from illegally acquiring units.
