I was wondering if there is a way to buy land (government or not) in a way that, that government disowns it and no longer claims it.

EXAMPLE: let's say that cuba is 50 square miles ( I have no idea how many square miles it is, it is just an example) and i bought 1 sqare mile and cuba disowned it, cuba will still physically have 50 square miles but will only own 49. No I am not trying to over throw government of any kind in any where of any kind just currious. Celebs buy islands all the time, but the gov techically still owns it in terms of taxes, what country it belongs to...

People could privately own lands but the state has territorial jurisdiction over it as provided for in the constitution. The state has the right of control over its territory even when part of it is privately owned.

If a country sells land federally, like, not just legally - then no. While I don't know the exact extent, it would take one hell of an offer to make a government sell their land. Because in the case you speak of, it would no longer be a part of the U.S., and unless its not in the Continental U.S. there is no way the government would allow a republic to live within the Republic.

That's almost Family Guyish. And look what happened in their situation. (the U.S. declared war on the Griffen's. It was a tight political situation.)
