So now rumors are coming to fruition. Bush plans a "surge" of about 20,000 troops to Baghdad to provide "security" rather than to train Iraqi troops. Many say Bush will contnue to express U.S. "victory" in Iraq because he feels those in the United States will accept this alleged"victory" no matter how long it takes. Some historians also feel that underneath it all, the U.S. general public will reluctantly accept eventual victory, even at the expense of the loss of lives of many more U.S. troops. Some also feel that a continued comparison to Vietnam (with 56,000 losses) actually works in Bush's favor (considering the 3,000 -plus troop loss in Iraq, to date). Still others say that Bush's 'failures' thus far mirror other war 'mistakes' because other former leaders never "got it right the first time either"
How do you feel about the above?
