Scion,
There are close to the same number of people in CA as there are in Iraq. That is why they made the comparison. Come on don't be a dummy.

They also talked about how Saddam let over 100,000 prisoners free in the last hours before the American invasion. These people are still running rampant in Iraq. What would happen if all of CA's prisoners were set free?

Alas you skeptics, I think the only statistical slight of hand to make this work, is to eliminate all the deaths caused by the US military. (By definition, we don't consider these folks to have been "murdered". I'm not clear on whether we call US war dead "murdered" but I doubt it.)

I appreciate the argument that the media coverage of the level of violence in Iraq has been sensational...this is what the US media does with everything. But, to make the argument that Iraq is somehow SAFE, is just silly. This is an obvious case where two wrongs (each distorting the facts to make a point) do not make anything that vaguely resembles a right.

And, unless I'm missing something, it's still the most dangerous place in the world to be a member of the American military.

These phony statistics are bandied about by right-wingers to make the war seem positively attractive, and to make blue states look bad.

First there was a comparison between Baghdad and Washington, DC. That was debunked real fast. This one will be too, as soon as someone with a brain does the math.

To come on here and quote some right-wing talk radio fool as if it was fact is just ludicrous.

i dont care what anyone says about how there is more violence here. california is a BIG state and a TON of people. anyone that has been on the 405 freeway in the afternoon can back me up on that. but because there are SOOO many people the crime rate and violence will go up. thats like saying a small town with 15 people in it has the lowest violence record. well THATS because there are ONLY 15 people. if they put a couple states together to equal the amount of people there are in california, it would be about the same. so i call BS, even if they say there is alot of violence compared to iraq, which there obviously isnt. they dont put into consideration how many people are living in this state

Maybe more violence against Americans, but not as a whole. Over 52,000 people have died since the start of the war from violence. I don't think CA has had that much in the last few years.

Wow, K_BIZ. Do you really believe that?

I am not going to look it up, but a couple of years ago, when things in Baghdad started really turning downhill, some republican or right wing radio/TV moron was talking about how much more dangerous Washington DC was than Baghdad.

Only problem: This right wing retard was citing YEARLY violent deaths in DC, comparing them to DAILY (or maybe it was monthly) violent deaths in Baghdad.

Of course DC is going to have more deaths in a year than Baghdad does in a day or month!

This is how the right wing operates. Misleading statements. And outright lies. This illustrates why people who actually research matters, who are of above average intelligence, and possess the ability to analyze data are overwhelmingly likely to be democrats.

That is called the old bait and switch to try to get you from focusing on the real issue. It's not really a very interesting perspective it's just a common way to deceive the masses.

No, thats not true. Pro war conservative radio hosts lie all the time, they think their listeners are idiots. I live in California, there is absolutely no way there are 100 murders a day here. Conservative talk radio is cancer, avoid it like the plague.
