Allah is described as the God of Abraham and therefore can also be defined as the God of the Jews, the God of the Christians and the God of the Islam (Muslims). Christ is also acknowledge as a prophet by many Islamic faiths.
These groups have been warring amongst themselves and each other for centuries. Basically about interpretations. As I see the only instruction was to spread the message. (my interpretation)

The Qur'an actually just phases in and out of "peace and love".
I'm not too sure of the actual orgins, but it just have been writen by a number of different people (like the Bible) or just Muhammad himself. I haven't read the Qur'an myself nor the Bible. But I know that it claims that all people of the world are suppost to be Muslims already but any that oppose it actually can be killed. And promotes the usage of violence to convert the whole world.
Though I have heard that it also promotes love and forgiveness and preach patience and goodness.
As you can see, most moderate Muslims take the loving and good aspects of the Qu'ran. While the radial Islamic funtamentalists you see almost everyday take the entire Qu'ran literally.
I don't know all the points and probably listed a narrow view but it really shifts from swords and shields and love and forgiveness, well at least the current things I know about the Qu'ran.

The Koran has a whole chapter (surah 8) dedicated to the spoils of war. I would not call that promoting peace among men. They do promote peace among Muslims who belong to Dar Al Salaam (House of Peace) but that good will is not extended to the non Muslim who belongs to Dar Al Arb (the House of War).

If you read the Quran, you will realize that this "Allah" person has declared war on just about everyone.
