I'm trying to come up with creative ideas whereby legal services for indigent and low income people can be available. Besides legal aid places and assigned public defenders, what could be offered and how could a program like this be put into place? I'm not talking about criminal cases, but regular civil cases where a person should be able to seek legal recourse, but doesn't have the funds to hire a lawyer.

One thought I had was to allow third year law students to assist these people, pro bono, with supervision of an attorney. Another idea was to make it mandatory for firms to do a percentage of pro bono cases per year. Details, of course haven't been worked through on these ideas, but does anyone have other thoughts or ideas?

While I was studying abroad in Mexico I was raped by one of the managers at a popular club there. As a result in less than 3 days, the guy who raped me, a friend for two months was sentenced to 40 years in prison. At the time, I was really drunk because he had bought myself and my friend 3 bottles of champagne which we promptly drank. He didnt drink anything. The reason why I feel guilty is not only because he was our friend, but because I feel like I said "no" up until the point of the rape and I was so drunk and confused I could only push him off at the last minute...And only after when he tried to get me to continue he let me out of the room because I began to cry. I feel maybe because I didnt fight him hard enough while he was doing it, he didnt realize that I truly didnt want it. The whole time I was telling him no,he said, that he knew we liked each other. The thing is, it was a horrible thing, but is 40 years too much? I just feel horrible, esp. cuz he could be killed.

The House in 2005 passed HR 4437.....very different from Bush's plan for "immigration reform"...but with the shift in power and majority of Dems supporting a comprehensive immigration bill.....they very possibly could pass a new bill(more like the Senates bill S-2611).

And while anmesty may or may not be included...if you read the bill...it's a clear "pathway" for millions of illegals to become legal...so it's really semantics, the "guest worker program" is just about the same thing.

Do you really think Bush would veto this bill? Of course not...he's for a guest worker program! And has asked Congress several times to "work together" to pass something re: immigration.

To those who support Bush...would this change your mind about him?

I do not support any type of amnesty or guest worker program.

I just asked a question about my fiance in marine boot camp who had gotten an MRI while there that showed old back fractures. I guess another question I have is how long will it take until they make a decision on whether or not to discharge him? And why haven't they done so already? I mean wouldn't they decide right away after discovering the results of the MRI? Is there anything I can do to get him home safely? Thanks so much for all the answers to my previous question and for the help with this one. I'm just so worried I can't think about anything else!

accidently had alittle shoe polish on my belt buckle. DI told squad leaders to give a recruit a blanket party, the recruit ended up with a few broken ribs.one recruits mother mailed him some cookies and the DI made him eat it all in one sitting and the recruit couldnt eat it all and the DI shoved it down his throat, please tell me, getting food shoved down your throat prepares u for the battle field?? i went in the gas chamber, i done the procedures required in the gas chamber, and the DI told me to "stay awhile". anohter recruit paniced in the gas chamber, he passed out, was carried out of the gas chamber, and once he awaken, he was told to go back inside and get his weapon he dropped, with NO gas mask on. i never read this in articles, i been to MCRD san diego myself 26 years ago and witnessed all of this. i done good enough in boot camp to make honorary PFC upon completion of basic training. i aplaud the USMC in many things but some of their training tactics is simply abusive

Socialism has a basic flaw, and does not work well as we have tried. However this is not a difficult thing to overcome. The solution is simple; we get people out of power.

To fix this, we must work to design and build an all knowing, all seeing, super computer. We must give this computer full control of our lives. This includes: traffic, economy, forigen affairs, police action, ECT. This computer would not have our nature, and would be able to run a socialist community correctly and not become corrupt.

Just think, a glorious nation run with the pureaty and logic of a computer, and yet still have the heart of the people. This perfect government would not be like anything before it. I would name this system “Logical Socialist Decision” or LSD. This system could greatly improve any nation and help the world. We should all do our part to get all the nations to run on LSD. This is the perfect system, socialism with no corruption.
