The former USSR was such a better rival than the people are today. The rivalry was actually better with competion in space, the Olympics and Stallone Movies. We (US and USSR) really never argued about God...we just argued over how to run an economy. Money is always a better topic than religion for discussion.

... is it cozying up to such totalitarian regimes as the communist dictatorship in Vietnam?

Vietnam is not a democracy. In fact, unlike Saddam Hussein’s dictatorial regime in Iraq, the Vietnam dictatorship is communist, and as U.S. officials reminded us throughout the Vietnam War, communists are committed to burying America. Moreover, let’s not forget that the Vietnamese communists killed almost 60,000 American men — that is, many more Americans than Saddam ever killed and, in fact, 20 times the number of Americans killed on 9/11.

So why was President Bush recently visiting Vietnam and shaking hands with its communist dictators instead of leading a U.S. invasion force into Vietnam in his capacity as commander in chief?

My friend is going to sign up for the Army National Guard as part of their band. He says all he has to do is play music once a month and he gets free college. But that's not how it works is it? If the Army needs blood, they'll take their musicians, right? That's how I thought it worked. I think National Guard is a bad idea since they deploy more often than Army Reserves, and when their in Iraq they are not as experianced as their full time counterparts. I just want my buddy to look at this realistically. Do you have any evidence I can use?

Please, don't just list them, explain them. I also say Republican because I do not believe that Conservatives and Republicans are the same thing any more.

I am prior AF, though I should mention I got sent home directly after tech school. I say that because I couldn't really tell you what day-to-day AF life is like. In any case, I've pretty much decided to re-enlist, though I'm having a hard time deciding between the Naval Reserve, and the AF reserve. Some initial impressions:

*Both have jobs I think I'd be satisfied with so that isn't a concern. If I enlist, I'd be working in the IT field. Any rough guesses as my chances of deployment? Do they usually give you an advance notice? Or do you just get that phone call in the middle of the night?

I'm not afraid of deploying, I understand that's a risk you take when joining up, I just want to be as prepared as possible.

*Any major difference in benefits between the two? I know the Navy has the "Navy College Fund", but I'm prior service so that wouldn't apply. Past that, anything else?

I guess that's really it, any other advice you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

I am 23 years old. I am graduated college this May with majors in Anthropology and Sociology. I just joined the military and will be going into military training for 5 months after graduation. I then hope to attend a police academy.

First of all, do I go to a police academy before I apply for a job?

How many vacancies are out there these days?

How is the ranking like, for example, sergeant, chief, sheriff, ect, who is higher in rank, and

how much do they get paid?

Please tell me everything you know about this. I am really interested in doing this as a career, but unfortunately don't know much about it.

thanks.

I am a senior in high school, thinking of joining the military when I graduate. I've been looking into the military for about eight months now, never really lost interest. I think about a lot, every day, and I've changed my mind about which service I want to join about a billion times now. But every time I change my mind, I'm more confident of the decision and it takes me longer to change my mind again. So I must be getting somewhere. Anyway, my parents reccomend I go to college and do ROTC, but I want to enlist right now.. so I don't know what I should do. How long should I wait before making a decision?
