You don't follow World politics do you...
Vietnam had been approved for entry into the World Trade Organization Bush has to be diplomatic. He used some of his time there to discuss continuing military-to-military links, work on AIDS and bird flu and trade.
They've also discussed the ongoing search for information about the more than 13-hundred U-S military personnel still unaccounted for from the Vietnam War. By the way China is also a Communist country , the US also "talks" to them...

Pretty much becuase we've been there done that. Too many people have bad memories about that war and it ended pretty horribly in the first place. Our country would rather become allies and solve our differences diplomaticly. Iraq on the other hand, we went in there too have a larger influence in that region. We are already are in Saudi, Kuwait, and Afghanistan, but the real money maker is in Iraq. or so they thought. Bush thought he could make up some reasons, such as WMDs and now it's so that we could free the Iraqi people from an evil dictator. That's bullshit, it's for money, money, money. Dictatorships such as China, Cuba, Vietnam, Iran are still in place because either there is too much money to be made still having them in place, such as China, or there is no money to be made taking them out, such as Cuba or Vietnam. Realistcally, no one gives a damn about third world countries like Cuba or Vietnam. It's sad, yes, but our country is a capatalistic society that was made by making money, the fastest, easiest way possible. Until American society changes from being fat, lazy and greedy to truly caring, selfless, generous; it's going to keep going the same route.

....Because the Vietnam war was completely pointless and we have no reason to attack Vietnam. The war was simply the result of a panic in dread that the entire world would become Communist. But it won't, so we have no reason not to shake hands with Vietnam since it poses no threat. Suddam was a very bad man, who killed lots and lots of other people. And Vietnam, just as any nation would do if it were invaded, killed American troops because they were on their soil. I'm definitely not against the valiant American troops who were killed in Vietnam, but their deaths were for naught, sadly. Vietnam really isn't bad at all.

The answer is rather complicated.
It involves Balance of Powers and regional "spheres of influence".
Fundamental to these two concepts is the goal of keeping peace at a regional level so business and commerce (which translate into more tax money for all governments) are able to grow.
In short, the US looks to China to be the stablizing super power in the region to keep the Korean peninsula and Soviets in check while the US attempts to manage the middle east with its oil fields.
Remember too that the enemy of my enemy is a friend.

LOLOLOL The man has two faces....
I think you know the answer....communism is a threat to US capitalism, and if you can keep the threat of communism going, you can keep the military budget sky high without any annoying questions from Congress or the American people. As to an invasion of Vietnam, well, I guess we don't have enough troops with the issue in Afgahanistan and the war in Iraq...might have to institute a draft and then how would he explain the body bags shipped into the suburbs?

Listen Buddy, the only reason the Americans went into Iraq is to protect Isreal. The Jewish lobby is responsible for sending our troops into Iraq, they just found a stupid puppet like Bush (who I voted for) to implement everything. I just regret our Men and women are dying for nothing when cruise missiles or navy seals could be doing the job instead.
Peace,
