important to work in law enforcement. Right now I finished three full semsters at College. An I do not have enough tuiton to complete the rest of my College education right now. I was thinking of going to the Military. Would the military background, and a few years at college help for looking into a job for law enforcement? Thanks for the input.

A college degree is everything....without it there is no advancement in any department with law enforecement. Being a patrol officer is great, but change and advancement is the key to life. My advice take out a loan and finish college. Military background will only get you so far in law enforcement. It may get you in a department, but you willl be making under 50,000 for the rest of your career.

If you sign up for the military right now, you might end up in Iraq! Go to your financial aid office, apply for all the loans and grants you can find, and try to put yourself through college. If you can prove financial need, it is easier to get help through those chanesl. Otherwise, go to a large bookstore (like Borders or Barnes and Noble) and buy or flip through their books that list different kinds of scholarships available (send me a message if you need more help with that). If you change your mind later on about law enforcement, you will still have a college education to fall back on.

You've finished 3 semesters and I'm sure they flew by pretty fast. Finishing out the rest would go by just as fast. You need to look into any and all forms of financial aid. Loans, grants, scholarships, whatever. There are so many people who quit school for money reasons and many times they don't even try to look at other options. The thought of paying back student loans scares a lot of people. But be honest with yourself - without a degree, what will you have to fall back on. Talk to your financial aid office and of course, the Internet is always at your disposal. There's tons of money out there - you just have to look for it.

You are actually answering your own question, in a way.

To me, a degree means nothing. I have worked circles around co-workers with degrees (I have none). But sadly the establishment seems to like them. So keep going the way you are. The Military will give you GREAT experience towards your goals and what's better, THEY will pay for you to complete your college.

Rock On!

I would have a complete college degree, however if you join the military they may be able to pay for the rest of your college tuition. That may help you in the future. Good luck.

Yes, it should help, though most departments are looking for at least an Associate's or 60 credit hours, and some are looking for a Bachelor's in order to qualify.

i would say get the degree, and apply for a police academy, once inside there you can transition and move into a slot that you like, forensics, detective, etc.. the military is alright but that would be another couple of years at least.

i think you just need to get accepted in the police academy. college helps you get into forensics or FBI but i don't think you need a degree to be a cop
