I am so tired of hearing about Democrats and Republicans. If the government is supposed to be a government by the people and for the people, then why do we have partisan politics? All it does is give politicians one more thing to hold higher than the will of the people. It seems like the order in which politicians hold their allegiance goes like this:
1)Their party
2)The businesses that contribute the most $ to their campaigns
3)The voters (as a distant 3rd)

I'm tired of slowly realizing that political parties and corporations run this country. Why are we moving further from democracy? Does anyone else think this is ruining our country?

I've heard that the American government grants alias passports to citizens who travel in and out of nations in conflict (such as Israel and Lebannon, or Pakistan and India). Is there any truth in that?

Hillary the statist: "We're saying that for America to get back on track, we're going to take things away from you on behalf of the common good".
(Hmmm, I am not a child--yet why does this statement make me feel as if I've been a bad girl?)
Does this statement scare you?

Implementation worldwide

In some countries which have laws on "racial equality", and "affirmative action" is rendered illegal by a requirement to treat all races equally.

This approach of equal treatment is sometimes described as being "race-blind", in hopes that it is effective against discrimination without engaging in reverse discrimination.

In such countries, the focus tends to be on ensuring equal opportunity and, for example, targeted advertising campaigns to encourage ethnic minority candidates to join the police force. This is sometimes described as "positive action", as opposed to "positive discrimination".

It's time for the USA to catch up to the rest of the world!

I've heard a lot of Republicans talking hate towards Mexicans lately, and they even deisre to send them all back to Mexico.

I am not Mexican, in fact I am an American of many generations.

I served in Vietnem.

My son was killed in Iraq.

I love baseball and hot dogs.

I fly my American flag daily.

You can't get much more American than I am, however most of the people I love are Mexicans.

They have been the kindest, sweetest, and best neighbors I've ever had.

The Republicans, in my life, have been absolutely hateful and always have mean looks on their faces.

Why do they want to take all love away from my American life?

When they die and if they go to Heaven, will they want to ask God to bar all Mexicans from there too?

Why do so few have to pay so much?
If the Dems claim to be the party of fiscal responsibility and also claim that they want to raise taxes on "the rich", is it then true that they wish to increase spending and are, in fact, not "the party of fiscal responsibility" but instead the same old Tax-and-Spend Dems that we've come to know and love so well?

Not yet up to speed on who's paying taxes in the US? This page shows it as well as any: http://www.allegromedia.com/sugi/taxes/

And if, like some, you think the data on that page are nonsense please feel free to find reputable data supplied by our tax authorities refuting it. I suggest this because some of the more intellectually-challenged on this forum insist on rejecting data out of hand because it clashes with their (very limited) world view.

Oh, and one other oft-heard complaint is that the data on the linked page is out-of-date (it's from '99) - again, I'd welcome a link showing that there's been a relevant material change.

Feel free to discuss the differences between the Founding Fathers on federalism, privacy, industry, and religion. I'd be interested to see some historical support.

Cheney and others thought we would roll in, install new leaders and that would be it. Could it be " faulty intelligence " or arrogance or terrorists who hate us for our freedoms ?

Please don't just say it's against the 9th amendment and is a human right, because for example we have the right to snort cocaine but it is illegal.

Imagine this: You're tied to a stake and savages are about to light the logs under your feet.

So, class, what do you do?

Cut and run!

How about this one? Evil-doers have tied you to the railroad tracks and the Teheran Express is bearing down on you. If you have any brains at all, whatcha gonna do?

Cut and run!

President George Bush has been accusing Democrats of having a reasonable, coherent Iraq policy: getting out alive. "Cut and run" for short.

Of course, most Democrats have denied having a "clear-cut" program on Iraq, preferring, "setting a firm date for phased withdrawal." We don't know what that date is, but if it's anything later than Thursday, the policy is a fudge. Sorry, but "gnaw and wiggle" won't do. Cut and run gets the job done. Gets you the heck out of harm's way. When that runaway truck is careening down the jogging track, you don't 'Stay the Course.'

Try it yourself: Cut and run can be fun!

If pirates tie a boulder to your neck, what should you do, kids?

Cut and run!

Or, let's say you've got the wires to Dick Cheney's pacemaker in your hand. What should you do? (No, no, no! Be kind.) Speaking of cut and run- there's still corporations getting their cut in Iraq. values are hard to understand as being the same as the ones taught by Jesus.

Does anyone remember the Christian left when the word Christian is thought of..

I feel many of the Christian right support things Jesus would not approve of SO I want to know
is 1.why do they ignore the teachings of the one they say they follow,
2. do more people hate Christians due to Bush and Christian right and
3.does anyone remember there are Christians on the left who disagree with them?

If you must get political, you must, but at least address these three specific questions in your answer especially the 2nd one as to effect of Bush and religious right on people's views/hatred of christians and is the hatred for Christains escalating due to this.

There are so many compelling facts that get distorted with random hearsay, eg no Jews in the Towers etc.
I have yet to meet an informed intelligent person, and certainly none on this "soma forum" that doesn't realise the obvious fact that the Twin Towers didn't fall without pre arranged demolition, there are lots of question marks about the other official stories eg "hello mum this is Mark Bingham, do you believe me ?- ( you'd better 'cos you won't find my body) etc. But which do you think is the most compelling.
I admit that I went along with the official line for ages, but slowly, and not without extreme reluctance on my part, it became so obvious that I would have betrayed my attempt at integrity by believing it.
Also I invite anyone to prove me otherwise. I have researched more about the official theories, (Purdue University, National Geographic, Popular Mechanics etc etc) than I have about alternative theories, wanting to believe them, but all I got was my intelligence insulted.
