Why do so few have to pay so much?
If the Dems claim to be the party of fiscal responsibility and also claim that they want to raise taxes on "the rich", is it then true that they wish to increase spending and are, in fact, not "the party of fiscal responsibility" but instead the same old Tax-and-Spend Dems that we've come to know and love so well?

Not yet up to speed on who's paying taxes in the US? This page shows it as well as any: http://www.allegromedia.com/sugi/taxes/

And if, like some, you think the data on that page are nonsense please feel free to find reputable data supplied by our tax authorities refuting it. I suggest this because some of the more intellectually-challenged on this forum insist on rejecting data out of hand because it clashes with their (very limited) world view.

Oh, and one other oft-heard complaint is that the data on the linked page is out-of-date (it's from '99) - again, I'd welcome a link showing that there's been a relevant material change.

It's amazing that the ill informed on this site won't address the issue of inequity when it comes to taxes. Maybe most of them are on food stamps and wick.

I'm gladly giving almost half my paycheck to reimburse the country for the ability to get me where I am today. I benefitted from social programs and received federal grants and loans to get my education. This country provides nearly everyone (except its very poorest) the opportunity to make as much as we want. It would be hypocritical for me to benefit from these social programs and then whine that taxes are high. I do think that government should be more efficient, something this Administration has been miserable at accomplishing.

Anyone who has a decent income benefits from living in this country and the oppurtunities it provides. If you want to pay less taxes, move to Bermuda.

It is interesting to note that the Clinton Adminstration spent much less than the Bush. Yes, you will say that's because there is a Republican Congress, but the fact is Clinton was not about spending and taxing, his administration shrunk government; Bush has expanded it back to Johnson Administration size.

There's an old saying - A politician who robs Peter to pay Paul can always count on Paul's vote.

pay so much? If you're in the middle class... and you pay your taxes... that's a huge percent of your disposable income... (the income you have left after buying needed things like shelter, food, ect.)

but, it's a smaller percent of a wealthy person's disposable income... because the vast majority of their wealth is disposable income...

aww... poor rich people...
