In public schools teachers are trying to enforce the rule that student have to stand up for the pledge and recite it. This goes against some peoples' beliefs because the pledge says, "Under God." in it. Should it be okay for teachers to tell the kids to say the pledge?

Liberals want to raise the minimum wage from $5.15 to $6.75 (over 3 years). The 1st raise in a decade. This would effect roughly about 5.8% of the workforce. Mostly women. A raise would still keep most of them below the poverty level.

The conservatives want to make this law contingent on whether they can make the Estate Tax permanent. The Estate Tax will exempt $5 million of an individual's estate ($10 million per couple) from any taxes at all. This would effect about 7,500 of the wealthiest families in America. Roughly 6%.

Some theorize the minimum raise hike will hurt the economy. I think millionaires already have enough loopholes & tax shelters to prevent them from paying their fair share of taxes now. Many of them pay no taxes at all, or very little. It has passed in the House. It now goes to the Senate. What do you think and why?

When the USA goes to war, the UK is usually there as well. They are seen as the faithful Tonto to the US Lone Ranger.

So how come, despite previous agreements that the US would always inform the UK about any US planes landing in the UK which are carrying bombs, the US has been failing to do so ?

Bush even had to apologize to Tony Blair for "bomb-laden" US planes landing at Prestwick Airport in the UK, without the UK being informed.

It has now emerged that the USA is transporting bombs to Israel via UK airports, where they land for refueling, and the USA is still not informing the UK.

Is Bush trying to alienate his best ally ?

Why are other countries looking at America with disgust, as they have their own problems in their countries? And why is it America's job to come to the aid of everyone else, even if we are hated by other countries?

If we are all doing what we think is good to raise our children, and live peacibly, why do people from other countries hate people in the United States? I'm talking about citizens, not our president. I wouldn't want that job right about now. He has many things that he has to try and figure out, without stepping on anyone's toes. How can America be so hated by everyone else?

We only went to one interview with immigration. When I filed the petition I didn't ask for anything but now I think I deserve spousal support. My big questions are can I change that, can I still try to get sposal support and if i can, is their anyone out there that can help me with this? We have a date of August 16th to end this whole thing but I dont want him to get off that easy.

Due to increasing oil prices, private transportation hits the lower/middle classes hard. Public transportation is unreliable and most are run off petro, and hence, are affected as well. Can we adopt a mass transit as well honed as those found in Europe or Japan?

One would think the US would have learned from the first oil crunch in the 1970s when OPEC disrupted the oil flow then. Alas, the cars seems bigger (look at the Hummers) today and not much progress has been made towards making efficient cars or cost effective mass transit.
