Yes. America offers more opportunity and social mobility than any other country, including the countries of Europe.
In the American view, there is nothing vile or degraded about serving your customers either as a CEO or as a waiter. The ordinary life of production and supporting a family is more highly valued in the United States than in any other country. America is the only country in the world where we call the waiter "sir," as if he were a knight.
People live longer, fuller lives in America.
In America the destiny of the young is not given to them, but created by them.
America has gone further than any other society in establishing equality of rights.
America has found a solution to the problem of religious and ethnic conflict that continues to divide and terrorize much of the world. Visitors to places like New York are amazed to see the way in which Serbs and Croatians, Sikhs and Hindus, Irish Catholics and Irish Protestants, Jews and Palestinians, all seem to work and live together in harmony. How is this possible when these same groups are spearing each other and burning each other's homes in so many places in the world?
America is the only country in the world that extends full membership to outsiders. An American could spend 40 years in India but would not become Indian. In America, by contrast, hundreds of millions have come from far-flung shores and over time they, or at least their children, have in a profound and full sense "become American."
Twice in the 20th century, the United States saved the world -- first from the Nazi threat, then from Soviet totalitarianism. What would have been the world's fate if America had not existed? After destroying Germany and Japan in World War II, the United States proceeded to rebuild both countries, and today they are American allies. Now we are doing the same thing in Afghanistan and Iraq. Yet America never stays to rule that country.
America is far from perfect, and there is lots of room for improvement. In spite of its flaws, however, American life as it is lived today is the best life that our world has to offer. Ultimately America is worthy of our love and sacrifice because, more than any other society, it makes possible the good life, and the life that is good.

In terms of oppurtunity america is awesome. But really if you don't have money in the states I gather you get no where and the gap between the rich and poor is widening there just like other industralized nations so in effect america is losing is 'specialness'. America is becoming like europe but still it is an improvement.
But then again you still need to have money in order to lead a good life, without it america will spit you out. Only nations like Great Britain have health services like the NHS that look after the old and the ill (although its dipped in standard). Britain has a good mix of state welfare and personal freedom/achievement, although the balance can't be decided, personally i would prefer less gov. intervention.
I would say the only reason how america could be described as the 'best' is from its leading space technology (eg man on the moon) all the other notions about america eg freedom, saviours of the world are mostly myths and not necessarily any better than other free nations. USA only abolished slavery this in the last century.

That is a very loaded question. We have a lot more power and influence than some countries but we don't always use it to best of our abilities. We are a country that offers freedom and many escape here from countries that don't offer that, but we have to look at our past and how our country treated the blacks we had as slaves. African-Americans area part of our history. They are US. There still is discrimination among us towards everyone in the land of the free...not free from discrimination apparently. There is also the things that aren't so good like the battle for gay rights, the death penalty, and stem cell research. Unlike some countries though you are Innocent until proven guilty which can be a blessing. There are many poor people in our country and though there are programs like free lunch for kids at school and free meals in towns there is still a huge percentage that is poor and sometimes the government works in favor of the already rich. So though like every country America has it's bad points I feel free in this country and I have a future that I can work for like everyone else. So though I didn't really answer your question I am proud to be an American

Yes, it is. European countries are welfare states where people expect their government to hand them everything. Most supposed Democracies in the world are welfare states. The ones that aren't democracies are areas where nobody has any freedom. Even though our government sucks here in America, we're still not as bad as those other countries. Yes, we have many things screwed up. A legal system with far too much power that screws up people's lives just to make money and a government that pretends they're giving us rights and freedom when they're doing things like forcing people to go to a school that wastes more time than is spent learning.

It is A country in the world. Looks great, but so do a lot of other places.
As a Scot I have to say: Scotland is the best place in the world.
I do think the Americans are lucky and cursed at the same time.
Lucky to have such a wonderful country.
Cursed...well, cursed by so many.

Hahaha!
I've stopped myself laughing just long enough to write this!
What are you on?
You had segregation and laws preventing black people from voting until the mid-sixties; your economy and currency are falling; you're so heavily dependant on oil if it all ran out you'd be in an instant depression; you're corrupt government has no credibility, intelligence or morals; the entire world hates you; you don't have a free press; certain political views are illegal; you have a poor education and health system; you have one reliable friend in the world, the UK, and its people wish they weren't so close to you; you have the poorest Human Rights records of any developed country in the entire world; your freedoms and quality of life aren't as good as most EU countries.
So in short, no.

This is Yahoo UK. English people are unlikely to vote the US as a better country than their own.
Plus we don't like the death penalty, the high rate of violent crime, the low rate of adult literacy, the appalling rates of poverty and child poverty, the long long history of murdering the natives, the appalling pollution rate, the fact that US companies and private citizens will employ illegal immigrants for peanuts rather than pay a minimum wage, and the CIA interfering with the stability of other nations.
Every large nation has its problems. Pretending they don't exist doesn't solve them

confident it is as quickly as you get around each and all of the creepers destroying it. I recommend seem at what they did in 2001, they actually faked yet another pearl harbor in hopes that human beings would flock to the inlisting centers like they did after pearl harbor.. united states of america is the wonderful yet we would desire to continuously decide the thank you to maintain the freaky grasping creeps from continuously making a mockery of it.

there is no better place on earth .people would rather be in an american prison then live in a third world country.
thats why it is so important to bring back deportation of citizens .
we have a few territorys that need people .SO deporting a few americans to some of these places would sure make sense.
LIKE if you do not work or do anything they ship you off to one of a few dozen islands .
