that the United Kingdom closed its borders, admitted that we can't take any more immigrants, sorted out the problems we face concerning migrants recently reported in the press, re-wrote our immigtation policy and simply refused to take any more until we are certain we can house, educate and provide decent work for them?

I recognise that all nations need immigrants to support our existing workforce. The immigrant per se is not the problem. The problem is that we already have an immigrant population willing to work, but now we have a tidal wave heading towards us and there is only so much to go around. My question hides a fear for this proud nation. We do not need internal conflict, as we are seeing in other parts of the world....but I fear it is coming.

I would be interested to find out what your surname is. My reason, I bet that not to many generations ago your ancestors were immigrants. The UK (and this goes for the sceptic tanks out there) is a mongrel nation made up of Saxons from the low countries, Scandinavians and Frenchies as well as myriad others. Just because that immigration occurred a long time ago it doesn't mean it wasn't immigration.
It must be said that the UK has the second largest European population living on a small island and that is of concern. But ask yourself the question when you are buying your cheap, out of season food in the supermarket. How can I have this? the answer is immigrants. Someone wisely said no man is an island and that goes for this country. We need immigration because on the whole they benefit this country. Go to your local hospital and tell me we don't. So stop blaming these people and identify the real source of the problems that you seem to think this country has.

I live in the South of England near the cargo village at Heathrow Airport, we have just been told, without consultation that 180 of our houses are to be demolished to make way for 400 due to the large level of immigrants and assylum seekers that naturally graviate toward the airport. The council are to cap the prices of our houses based on overall condition. It is little wonder that many English people are getting upset at this deluge of people (some figures say there are as many as 500,000 illegals in the UK) as the strain on our infrastructure is badly affecting services such as schooling, housing etc. Were they to allow an amnesty it would only become worse and most of these people cannot speak English except for phrases they have been coached in such as torture, rape etc.

I think the only answer is deportation without exception and much stricter border controls to stop any future repeat. People should then be licenced to come and work in the country having to return whence they came if they become unemployed.

Just my two pennies worth

Cheers

Steve

YES!!! I 100% agree with you!! When will this Government of ours see sense! More to the point, when are we, as citizens of this country, going to get off our backsides and do something! We seem to be accepting all they dish out with no question. Are they blind in Government,do they not see what you and I see? That old saying "reap what you sow" may very well come back to haunt Tony Blair and his "Cronies"!
Stop voting for a Labour Government!

absolutely immigration is one of the biggest problems for the uk and possibly the biggest drain on our economy, our own people have enough problems lets sort them out first 'charity begins at home' and all that, why should the uk have to deal with the rest of the world s problems?

Unfortunately it is not as simple as that.

We have European and International law to consider and also it is not possible to completely seal our borders. Immigrants will always be able to get in some way and if they are genuinely at risk if returned to their country of origin we cannot return them.

Yes it is and we should round up illegals and return them to their country of origin. Any immigrant who serves a prison sentence should also be sent home.

You do realise that without immigrants to work for very low wages the UK economy would be absolutely knackered?
