It is many years since we invaded Afghanistan in chase of Al Queda. It was a successful operation and thanks to the Russians for not giving guided missiles to the Taliban in tit for tat for what we did when they tried to do he same. But we destroyed the Al Queda/Taliban camps, killed a good number of them, installed a reasonable democracy and things seemed to be working out. We paid with Ametican lives and $billions as usual.
But it now seems the Taliban are regrouping and fighting us face to face, not in remote areas but a few miles from Kabul the capital. Are we not killing more of our soldiers for nothing? We have achieved what we went in for. Perhaps it is time we were getting out and concentrating on supporting the Government with air strikes and money and not with foot soldiers. We should not be engaging in a war of attrition with Moslem fanatics, who are trying to go to paradise where they will be rewarded with 75 virgins. But I only have one vote. What do you think?
