I don't. I think it's all a big waste of money. What I don't understand is why they don't fix the shuttles if they have foam falling off or whatever.

Much scientific research is carried out on the space shuttle and in zero grav. Many of them involve hydroponics and other methods of growing plants in zero gravity. Since the earth is, according to Al Gore, dying like a Democrats hopes for election in 2008, don't you think it would be beneficial if we could grow food in outer space and transport it here for consumption? Okay, Dems feel free to tell us how big business will be running that within a few years.

I think the foam is necessary because the fuel is liquid hydrogen (I think) and it has to be a very low temperature, thus it would freeze the tank.

Why are we so bound and determined to put people in space anyway? Aren't there enough problems here we need to take care of?

Actually there is alot of people who care about the Space Shuttle and I know two personally. They have more factors than simply themselves that determine if they succeed or fail, such as the weather.

Bush wants us to go back to the moon and then to mars.
I don't understand why we would spend billions of dollars to see if there are other beings out there.
If some one reports seeing an alien space craft, or reports being abducted, nobody believes them.
We are looking for something, and denying that it exists at the same time.
Big waste of money.

scientific things obviously escape you....but i agree, NASA is a sponge for taxpayer dollars, maybe we should cut back on space travel and maybe spend our money on heathcare or something a little better than space exploration....
