About to be a Dad in some months, just got back from the 2nd ultrasound and got to see that my kid was perfect and healthy (though very prudish about showing off their stuff to the machine). I was seeing that healthy perfect brain though as the doc was pointing it out and thanking God my kid wouldn't be a Republican.

Someone made a good point about "true Republicans". Most of those are ardent constitutionalists and Libertarians. If my kid reassured me of this, I'd be just fine.
Neo-cons are neo-fascists in disguise. I'd have to retroactively abort the kid.

I wish I could be around to hear your son tell you, "Dad, I'm a gay republican".

GOOD QUESTION!!!!
I think this is a great thought!
I'd rather he or she say he was a Republican, and here's why:
You can always change your mind on your political viewpoint. Not that Democrats are perfect--but, ANY PARTY out there has a chance at being better than Bush, no matter who or what they are.
Being gay is pretty much a lifesyle, and that is pretty much settled.
I have a love for people, period--gay, and not gay, bi-sexual, black, white, yellow, tan, green (ok, not many green ones out there). But, I DO have a problem with Bush's ways of so called "running this country"--looks like he is trying hard to run it into into the ground--especially economically! So, much so- that his own people, powerful Republicans, have almost turned against him--that is no secret.
I am a Democrat by choice. The economy was better overall when the last few were in office!
Thanks to Clinton ( regardless of how you felt about him personally)--he did work at helping the middle class more. Not many "stats" can argue with that.
Be assured and don't get me wrong..I am NOT saying anything against being gay, again, it is a CHOICE TOO!
Period. ( I say that a lot- if you haven't noticed my answers on these questions that I feel are good and valid- and the ones I have a viewpoint on.)
You guys are smart and "rock". The smarts are what keeps this country going--nothing else!
If only some politicians were as smart as YOU ALL, REALLY--this country would be even better!!!!!!!! I really, truly mean that.

First of all, let me say congratulations!!! Having a child as an adult is the first step in growing-up and becoming a wise conservative.
It depends if you're a Liberal or a Republican. If you're a Republican either situation wouldn't matter since Republicans are willing to listen to both sides of an issue before formulating an opinion. The Republican may not agree with their kid being gay but they're not going to ostracize, disown or murder the kid... (Dick Cheney's gay daughter is proof of this theory)
If you're a Liberal, and your kid says "I'm a Republican" it's obviously a fate worse than death since this questions proves Liberals are really fascist when it comes to outside opinions...
Good example of this is to read all the post above mine and see how many people suggest not listening to or even killing the kid, true liberal fascist hypocrisy...
And yes, I'm Republican. I don't agree with the concept of abortion, but I believe it's an individuals right to choose.

I don't know. From your question, one can only assume that you place homosexuality and being a republican in the same category; and that you don't care much for either.
You sound a bit like a bigot. You should really work on accepting people just the way they are. Fat, republican, gay, bucktoothed, or otherwise. I hope that you would be able to do the same for your son no matter how he turns out. Just be thankful if he's healthy and doesn't turn into some mass murderer.
Just for fun.

There is nothing wrong with being Gay or Republican. The only problem is that the most Republicans are not Republicans they just call themselves that. Most of them are really Neo Conservatives and that is what I would have a problem with. I like true Republicans

"Dad, I'm a Republican."
No shame in the republican party, just in the bush-supporting clan. Republicans as a whole are fine. They have their own views on money and ethics, and we should accept that. "Dad, I'm gay," however, is saying, "Dad, I am going to have a really hard time in life because a lot of people have a problem with who I am and who I love. I am now joining the group of adolescents with the highest suicide rate of any other adolescent classification."

OK if it's just for fun than I would rather he told me he was a republican. I would be a liar if I said I get the whole gay thing. I would be worried that my child would have so much pain and discrimination for being gay. No one wants to see their children hurt.

"Dad I'm a Republican", because after I run my mouth, and complain and cry, and stalk him for day saying "why, why, why must you break your mother's heart?", then I'm sure that he will eventually see that being a Democrat is just the most moral way to go! The reason that wouldn't work if he was gay, is because I've been led to believe that people are born that way.

Would you still love him if he said, "Dad, I'm a gay Republican."?
Love, the kind that parents are supposed to have for their children, the unconditional love that gets you out of bed at 3:00 in the morning to clean up vomit and cry because your child is hurting, that kind of love, transcends politics or sexual orientation.
