so ive spent a nice long time sifting through a ton of crap on a ton of sites to get nothing i need to know.

i got a 20 gallon fish tank for christmas. it comes with a whisper filter and crap like that.

i love the fish tank, but i dont want it if i need to do maintance on it. so far ive found out, i have to tcheck the water and chemicals, and i have to clean my filter, and i have to clean the water apparently....

on this instruction manual tthing it says "the filter cartidge should be changed once per month to prevent backflow and avoid filtration problems resulting from a clogged filter cartidge" so does that mean i have to spend money on a new cartirdge every month? how much are those?

what are other mainatance do i have to do? how much are little kits? how the hell am i supposed to adjust the water so its healthy for the fish? how the hell am i supposed to clean this tank? what the heck is a gravel vaccuum? im not buying a stupid fish vacuum so i can suck up poop from the grav

Right now my dwarf gourami is building a bubble nest. He keeps on pulling java moss to the top but it always falls. Is there anything that i can do to make it stay? The female in the tank has lots of hiding places so the male doesn't kill her. There are also many water sprite plants. He uses some of those but not all of them. How long will it take for him to finish the nest? (he started it 20 minutes ago). How long will it take for him and the female to mate after the nest has been finished? On average many eggs are dispersed? How long does it take for them to hatch? Will the male eat the young?

he is tanked with a bgk..and some other common fishes. I feed him cichlid pellets..i'm going to get about a 115 or a 75 gallon tank in march. Will he survive by then?

Is this water safe for fish............ Its from the grocery store.... It is called "Refreshe Spring Water" and is microfiltered and ozonated.

This water will be added to my friend's new fish tank. She already had the fishtank halfway filled with water thats been filtering for 3 days. She doesn't have any fish tank water dectectors as of now (her husband just got the tank last week and the fish yesterday) We just want to make sure this water is safe to add to the tank to fill it up all the way for the fish

I notice that my the leaves on my anarcharis is closer to each other. I installed a new light. Before the leaves used to be farther apart.

So my boyfriend got me a 20 gallon fish tank. Now my problem is that the filter makes too much noise. I don't know what is wrong with it but I know that it isn't supposed to make that much noise. The filter is a "Pengiun Power Filter 150 & 200". How do I fix the noise!! Please and Thank you.

I bought an aqua one 320 aquarium, and its not anywhere near done cycling yet but I like to plan ahead. I am planning to have a tropical aquarium.

I would like to get some danios as they sound hardier than the tetras, can you mix them, like could I get 3 pearl and 3 zebra?

Then was thinking 2-3 Peppered corydoras, would they fit in it, or do I need to look at smaller species of corydoras?

I want a bit of a mix, am obviously not looking at big fish, but I would like species that will cover the whole tank (top middle and bottom).

Also, when will I know its done cycling, I need some test strips, yes?

i have a sea clone 100 protein skimmer and it has been setup for 2 days now. and it isn't collecting anything in the cup. i keep turning the nob tying to adjust it and it just isn't working . could u please help me out with my problem?

I have an Eclipse Corner 5 (with the bio wheel). I've had a betta in it for a week and a half, which is now moved into a one gallon. I bought two guppies for it, one died so now I have one left (that I know of, I'm on vacation and my neighbors supposed to be feeding it). Anyways, right now I'm thinking 3 guppies and one platy, is that too much?

Would this stocking be ok? Heres what I'm thinking:

1 or 3+ angels
-first question: how many?
5 mollies
5 platty's
7 rasbora's (if they get eaten it would be sad, but...)
1 pleco

is that not a good combination? are the livebearers not fit? I already have an adult molly, adult platty, 1 platty fry, and 1 royal pleco, and I'm trying to fit around them, I really love angels. If really needed I have an extra 10 gallon tank with neon tetra's, but I would love for it to be possible for this to work.

OK, so I got a betta male on Thursday. This morning, he made a bubble nest and I started thinking that maybe I should try breeding once. But my head is spinning and I dunno where to start:
My betta male is pretty small and not very colorful, so he's probably pretty young (right?). And he made his nest pretty quickly, which means he's probably being fed well and in good water condition (right?). Also, he's in a bowl, not a tank, and I also need a tank size.
On the 26th (because stores are closed tomorrow) I'm most likely going to buy a female for him. I'll put them in the same bowl (is that safe? Or should I buy a tank and put them together and put some toys in for her to hide?). After they've chased each other, gotten her eggs fertilized, etc. I'll take her out and put her in a separate bowl. Here's where it gets tough: I don't want THAT many betta babies. I'm going to have to take some of the eggs out. How many is safe if I don't have too many people to give them too? More in a sec.

I cannot seem to keep a betta fish alive. I have had about 4 and I the one that I currently have has been alive for about 5 months (the longest yet). It was in my classroom up until Thursday when I brought it home for break. I noticed a white cottony growth on its body and purchased the proper medication at the pet store. I also did a thorough cleaning of his tank, as reccomended by the betta care site (it was pretty icky).

I learned that they liked warmer water, so I bought a small heater and a thermometer to monitor the temp. Mimo seemed to be active and getting better when I left this morning, but I returned home and found him with a swollen belly. The temperature is at 78 degrees and the tank has a carbon filter (use is suspended while treating per instructions).

I feel like all I have tried to do was to improve the environment, but possibly ended up killing him. Why? It seems a lot of people have these fish for years in dirty, small bowls.

My betta fish is about a year and a half old. I noticed he had fin rot a couple months ago. It's gotten way worse since then. I'm pretty sure it's fin rot: the flesh of the fins is eaten away but the bones remain. I bought Fungus Clear a few weeks ago and gave him a dose; I can't tell if it's gotten worse but I can't say it got better either. He also has another disease, a white cottony growth on the lower part of the head. Neither of these conditions have gotten better since I gave it Fungus Clear, and I'm wondering what else to do. Also, will the fins grow back eventually if the infection is stopped?

I have a 20g aquarium and its planted with no fish atm, there are some algae eating shrimp tho. my question is why is my water always have suspended debri in it. i have a hagen aqua clear for a 50g on it, also i have noticed some of the debri looks like TINy Tiny air bubles, could this be from my plants ???

i am going to do a fishless cycle and I got some ammonia. It says it has ammonia hydroxide and surfactact. Some people say that this is fine and others say it isn't. bottom line is when I shake it it foams. Is surfactant okay?
