They should get along just fine. Bettas only attack other bettas or fish that look like them. Some people say that adding platy to a betta tank(or the other way around)is a bad idea because their heads look the same. There are bettas that will accept other bettas. And then there are bettas that won't accept very many fish. The people that say that no other fish will go with a betta are completely wrong. I wouldn't be too worried and I would go ahead and get one. You can always return the fish if it doesn't work out and as long as he doesn't attack in the first few minutes, you can garauntee that he will never attack the fish. Keep an eye on the fish and good luck. Also, float the cup in the water. If the betta flares at the fish, just return the betta. If he doesn't flare and acts perfectly fine, then it should work out. Good luck, and it should work out.

The bettas that we have here in the US were bred to be fighting fish. The original wild bettas are far less agressive. While you can find a rare male betta who won't flare or nip at another fish, most will. It's not just other bettas they are agressive towards: bettas will flare, bite, and harass fish with long fins or bright colors. And sometimes, just any other fish, period. The bettas for sale in the US are strickly solitary fish; even if he didn't harass your platties too much, he'd still be very unhappy.

You know what kind of fish are super colorful and really fun to own? Guppies. I know it sounds lame, but male guppies get some pretty wild color patterns. They'll follow your finger and are very active. I've had platies, mollies, and guppies together in a large tank and they all got along, and let me tell you how beautiful that tank was! So many colors!

Anyway, good luck with the search for a new fishie!

People who say that Bettas will kill other fish are not fish-keepers. A Betta would be just fine with your Platys. Bettas don't do well with fish that resemble other male Bettas,or with fin-nippers like Tiger barbs, but just about anything else is OK.

sure! bettas are only violent towards other males! although, I have heard that they have mistaken the flambouyant tail of a male guppy for that of a betta and chased it around a bit! but platies should not be a problem.
