Breeding Gourami is a lot like Betta breeding, the key is to get the pair in top condition, and supply them with the proper environment. The conditioning is done by providing excellent water conditions (proper chemistry, low Nitrates, zero ammonia and Nitrites, frequent water changes, and correct and stable temperature),and then lots of good quality live foods.
A good book is a great help, one that I refer to frequently is "Aquarium Fish Breeding",published by Barron's,ISBN # 0-8120-4474-6. It's not all that expensive and has lots of good information.
