its not so much the size of the tank that's the problem its the fact they are aggressive towards other fish, ideal tank mates are the large cat fish like the pacus

He would, but depending on his size, your other fish may not. Clowns are piscivores (they eat other fish), and even if they're large enough that he can't swallow them whole, he may still attempt to take a bite out of them. It might be a good idea on your part to use a tank divider to keep your other fish separated from him.

Realize that clown knives can get to almost four feet long. That's the full length of a 75 gallon tank. Eventually, you'd have to go even larger than a 75-115. A fish should be able to turn around in the tank, so the smallest dimension (usually front to back) would need to be at least as large as the fish. They don't produce tanks this large, so you'd be looking at something custom built at some point in the future. The largest "typical" tank you'd find is a 265 gallon, and this is 85 x 24 x 30 (in inches). Also, remember that a gallon of water weighs 8.4 lbs, so a 265 gallon would weigh 2,226 lbs (and that doesn't include the tank, stand, gravel, or decor). That's over a ton in 7 feet of space. And you'll still need larger, which means even more weight. Do you have a floor that can support that weight?

I know your clown knife seems small now, but you should plan ahead and realize what a responsibility this fish will be to care for.
