Having watched "On The Moon" on Weebls Stuff I couldn't help but wonder whether it's possible for shellfish to go loopy.

Puffy, my fish here at work, has spent the last 4 hours swimming about on his back at the surface. Before anyone says the obvious he's not dead, he's flapping his little fins about and appears to be having quite a chilled time, even doing cool spins every now and then. My worry is that I am busy being impressed at his tricks whilst I should really be worrying he is trying to commit suicide or something..!

Is this normal behaviour?

I have these two goldfish...they're really cute and live in a small desktop tank that holds about...three gallons?

It's starting to get murky and I've been neglecting to remember to clean it...so I guess I really have TWO questions.

(1) How often should I clean the tank?
(2) What's the best way to do it?

I'm worried about the little rocks getting into the drain, and the fish always seem to have a hard time adjusting to the newer water - I get worried. Plus, I don't really have a place for them to go in the mean time - and with cats it's dangerous. Will a bowl do? Even with no oxygen flow?

Thanks.

My wife and I have a 50gal Aquarium. We mainly have guppy's but we also have a DoJo and two different types of Algae Eaters. The tank walls are fine, but the rocks in the bottom of the tank and the plastic trees are building a nasty scum. The stuff on the rocks looks like some kind of fungus. Any ideas what this is or what I should do to eradicate this problem?

Thanks for all answers. God Bless.

I've got a tank full of live bearing fish and find that each time one of the mothers has babies, a large number of them are sucked up in the filter.

I have one of those filters that hangs on the outside of the tank. There is a tube that sucks water up. It goes into the filter, through the sponge and charcoal and then back into the tank, almost in the form of a waterfalls.

I have been given suggestions such as using a sponge or piece of nylon to cover the intake. I really didn't like this option as the sponge gets dirty quickly and doesn't look attractive.

Are there any other filters that can be used other then the one I have. Others at the petstore said they are not as good, but it's been a while since I was there.

I am pretty close to giving up this hobby, just going crazy with the filter.

I have gotten a used 50 gallon tank from a friend. When i was cleaning it i noticed some kind of residue or build up (maybe calcium?) on the tank that will not come off with soap and water...any suggestions on how to get this off?

besides the obvious answer of get all males or all females, does anyone know how to prevent guppies from mating in your tank?

I have had my beta fish for about 3 months and lately he has been making this filmy looking layer on top of the water and I don't know what it it. I made it go away this morning and when I got home from school, it was there again. Also sometimes he spits out his food. I have another betta fish and have had him for longer and have never had any problems. I always clean their bowls and don't overfeed them. I don't know why he has been doing this. Can someone please tell mewhatsgoing on? Is he sick?
