Fish - October 2006

My bettafish named Francesca has been acting really weird lately. She throws up her food and stays in one place for a long time n it kinda looks like she's dead cuz she doens't move at all but she's not cuz then she changes spots n does it all over again. And also I think she threw up blood. Wats wrong with her? Muchas gracias =) No dumbass answers please

My friend is moving abroad and has given me his Goldfish, he
cannot remember where he got it, (definately under the influence
of falling down liquid, when he got it) about 6 months ago!!
It seems very happy and I have got it a nice sized tank, any

I have 10 fish in a 55 gallon aquarium, some molly's, some tetras. I noticed one of my molly's a few days ago started swimming around like he was paralyzed, his bottom half would not move and he'd kind of just float around. Now he's really hurting, he ate too when I fed them this morning. He's just laying under a plant, and when I try and move him he kind of just floats around trying to swim with his front fins. It really does look like he's paralyzed, could the force of water coming out of the filters cause harm? Or can this happen for other reasons?? Can I save him, he's my favorite.

Why don't fish in fish stores and at home reproduce? I mean, it isn't possible that they separate the genders. Can someone explain?

I have a 10 gallon fresh water gold fish tank. I've just recently moved about 2 weeks ago and it's about time for a 50% water change...but i'm faced with a problem. My tap water at the new house is treated and has sodium in it. I have a reverse osmosis system for drinking water but my water tank's only 5 gallons and I don't want to drain it. My question is can i go out and purchase, say, distilled water and use that? thanks!

My bought 4 guppies 2 weeks ago and the mama guppy dropped around a dozen babies shortly after. There are few of the babies don't look like guppies at all. They are much darker color and swim 45 degree, and they like to stay still on the bottom of the breeder. What could be the type of fish that mated mama guppy?

Do I need to feed him something special? He is a good size and healthy. I have had him for one year and he was maybe only an inch or two when I got him so he has grown. His head is smooth and flat with no folds at all.

The tank has an ick outbreak therefore I applied ick medicine into the water and took out the cartidge. So my question is will the ick which stay on the cartidge die when it expose to the air for 3 days?
