What types/how many of fish can live in a five gallon tank? Are their any combinations you can recommend?

What about a betta? If I had one, would I have room for a algea eater or a snail?

Five gallons is a VERY SMALL tank and you should have no more than two freshwater fish in there. Any more would be overcrowding and create problems.

I have been told an inch of fish per gallon. get a few tiger barbs. Just don't mix them with anything else. Or maybe some tetras. Your fish store can tell you and some places will tell you on the labels on the tanks they have.

rule is every inch of fish requires one gallon. As for what fish you can put in there i would recommend fish that you find attractive but that are easy to take care of. I have 2 gouramis that i find very easy to keep alive as well as a tiger barb (but tiger barbs are fin nippers so be careful) and a black skirt tetra. I have had no problems with these fish. Ultimately, it's your tank so have fun.

i would get 10 neon tetras they have brillant color and they are small and a schooling fish, they are also a community fish... stay away from oscars and betas they like to eat other fish, i would also get a sucker fish or a snail to clean the algea off the side of the tank, live underwater plants are always a nice addition to any aquarium. go to any pet stroe and they will tell you how many it toooo much

Try some killifish. You'll get a very interesting tank with a wide variety to choose from. They only need a small tank and basic maintenance. You can also try Gobies, they are cute as can be!

You could probably put 3-5 fish in the tank. You could try guppies, platy's, tetras... that sort of fish.

If you go to a petsmart they will have fish that go well together. Gupies are colorful and come in different sizes so that might work..(they are huge either)
