I read up on goldfish and learned they an live more than 20 years but that they grow pretty big and need a lot of oxygen and space. isn't it irresponsible to sell a product made for goldfish that has less than 1 gallon?

I set up a tank about 2 days okay to the water cycling. I don't have any fish yet. I bought the 10 gallon tank used from someone. I cleaned it without any bleach or soap. Just water but it was spotless when I set it up. I also have a castle (ornament) with it that also came used, i also cleaned that. I have 2 10 gallons and I set both up exactly the same. The only difference is for the tank that is cloudy has a filter. The other one that has clear water has no filter yet. I put aquarium salt, bacteria supplement, and water conditioner in both tank and used the reccomended amounts.
Yesterday the tank was clear, when Iwoke up today it was all foggy, What should I do? thanks

I have little tanks with power filters and I was considering an emperor 400 for the 55 gallon since it has two pumps, two wheels, and adjustible flow. But then I was reading and it said that the canister filters are quieter and do a better job and is more customizeable in terms of the types of filters. But canister filters are messy to clean and tricky to "prime" (I don't know what that means). Then I was considering a sump, which seems to have loads of benfits, but most (DIY) sumps seem bigger than my aquarium! Besides, my aquarium stand is metal and so it doesn't hide anything and I didn't want to see ugly PVC pipes unless it was actually worth it.

Value is important to me, but price itself is not. If you have experience keeping fish and a 55+ gallon tank, please help me out.

Thank you.

One of my larger goldfish has been 'resting' on the stone slab just under the surface of the pond for the past few days. It seems OK and can swim off when it wants to. I have noticed today that one of it's eyes seems to be swollen outwards so it looks as if it has a bubble on that side of its head. It does not seem particularly distressed and the other goldfish are all perfectly well and happy about 18" to 2' down. The pond is about 3'6" deep and 8' dia with two air stones in it. Has anybody got any ideas about this fish?

I've had him for a year now and I take excellent care of him. I'm just wondering the average life expectancy for Beta fish.

His name is Spartacus. :)

I have three fish and one alge eater...we just got done taking all the live plants out because we assumed it was too much. Yet the alge is just way over bearing and our alge eater can't keep up with the 10gal tank. What can we do?

Ok, ok, I know it's all natural etc but there must be a good way to control it....

I have a cold water tank - about 40 litres with 3 small fish (present for my 2 year old daughter). It has a pump and gravel (and a plant) but after about a week, the algae return...

I have a magnetic scraper - works ok for about 2 days
I've tried these A--B compound liquids - no apparent difference (although I was probably a bit woolly on following the instructions...
I've tried these tea-bag things (something about nitrates??)

Anyway - ideas welcome!!!

I recently got a fancy goldfish and a black moor. Their in a 10 gallon glass tank that unfortunately didnt have time to cycle. My problem is that they seemed fine at first but now the water has gotten cloudy (I think its a bacterial bloom) and they seem to just float at the top of the tank most of the time. When I say float I dont mean dead, and their not gasping for air above the surface of the water at all. I'm not able to check the chem levels as I dont have anywhere to get a test kit, but my fancy seems to have melanophore migration... which means he is healing from the lower quality pet store water, which shows me that his current water is good. Can anyone help me with why they spend so much time at the top and why its cloudy? I never seem to see them sleep, is this what they normaly do to sleep? Thanks all

I just bought a lg jack dempsey and a lg Red Devil for my 120 gallon tank... I figured that he would be harrased by my lg Oscar for territory but I didnt figure on the JACK DEMPSEY killing my Oscar who was bigger.... Now he is attacking the Red Devil! I bought the 2 new fish outta the same tank of the aquarium store... why is he suddenly a murdering bastard? Do you think the Aquarium store will take him back? Or can I provide something to help the other fish stay safe?
