I recently got a fancy goldfish and a black moor. Their in a 10 gallon glass tank that unfortunately didnt have time to cycle. My problem is that they seemed fine at first but now the water has gotten cloudy (I think its a bacterial bloom) and they seem to just float at the top of the tank most of the time. When I say float I dont mean dead, and their not gasping for air above the surface of the water at all. I'm not able to check the chem levels as I dont have anywhere to get a test kit, but my fancy seems to have melanophore migration... which means he is healing from the lower quality pet store water, which shows me that his current water is good. Can anyone help me with why they spend so much time at the top and why its cloudy? I never seem to see them sleep, is this what they normaly do to sleep? Thanks all

As your tank cycles it will get cloudy. You're right it's the bacteria blooming.

The behaviour of your fish shows that there is little oxygen in the tank because the tank is going through it's cycling process.

Do a 10%-20% water change immediate and then again every 3 days or so (sooner if they are gasping for air).

Go easy on their feeding. You want the tank to cycle but with no bacteria already established you don't want things to get TOO toxic in there. Feed every 2 days what they can eat in 1-2 minutes.

Good luck.

Swimbladder is a disease which symptoms cause fish to become unable to swim correctly, your fish may exibit swimming toward the bottom of your tank or bowl, then floating back up, swimming in circles or laying or floating on his side....
There are three main things according to the posts and articles I've read that can lead to swimbladder disease.
Constipation due to overfeeding
Bad water quality
Bacteria
I recommend the following regimine, recommened to me over two years ago.
First, as soon as you notice signs of swimbladder do a 35% water change, taking care not to stress the fish by having the water temp as close to his tank as possible. After your water change you should not feed your fish any food for two days. On the third day feed your fish a fresh pea. Frozen peas thawed, popped out of the skin, and cut into bite size pieces. And then do another water change so that any uneaten peas do not contaminate your water.
If you don't use aquarium salt this is a good addition to most tanks. The recommended dose is one teaspoon per gallon, or one tablespoon per five gallons. If you have never added salt and you are unsure; you may want to first acclimate him at only 1/2 tsp per gallon.

If I were you I would get a filter if you already have one get a bigger one for a 10 gallon I would use a 20-40 filter also I would do frequent small water changes like 10-15% or 15-20% every few days or so and that will also help with your cycling

a filter might help, but if the tank has been set up recently it always goes cloudy for about the first 2 weeks then it will just go clear and you can see from end to end perfectly

properly tetras are tropical fish and shouldnt truly be saved with goldfish for most motives.... a million) goldfish produce thanks to a lot waste and in case you dont clean it out very in many circumstances then all of your fish will struggle through 2) goldfish are coldwater fish and preserving coldwater with warmth you cant get the right temperatures for each fish it truly is undesirable for his or her well being 3) they merely shouldnt guppies can bypass both way they could eat golfish solid, i feed the guppies in my pond goldfish foodstuff. even with the indisputable fact that it may no longer contain the right nutrition for the tropical fish, it truly is yet another reason they shouldnt bekept jointly
