He tends to growl at his sister when she tries to take his toy away, I do not know if he is just playing or being serious, however, being curious I tried to take his toy from him and check how he reacted. He started pulling back and growling while I was trying to pull the toy away. I think he shouldn't do this to me so I yelled let go. Nothing. Yelled louder. Nothing pulled stronger yelling even louder and he let go a little frightened. I repeated this several times, now he lets go usually at the second warning and when he let's go I say good boy and let him have the toy. Is this the right approach?

Few days back I purchased a male husky dog about 2 years old from a breeder. The problem is that he looks like a wolf, instead of a dog. I feel the breeder has sold me a fat wolf, instead of husky dog.

I mean he just has too much of a wolfish look in him. His eyes also seem to sparkle way too much, compared to other dogs. I doubt a dog can have such bright eyes. All his physical features resemble a wolf. He seems to be large and muscular too. He also has unlimited energy in him and never gets tired. I read about wolves that they have lots of energy in them too.

His behavior is okay but he doesn't take much interest in anything besides food. I dont' sense any loyalty in him too.

This is the first time i have purchased a dog and so because i'm inexperienced I do not know if my suspicion against the breeder is correct.

could it be that i was given a wolf? Is there a way to find out?

Let me know please.

1) When will she start her periods?
2) When will she be in first heat and what I should do about it?
3) Her body hairs are falling a lot, how to stop it?
4) She starts smelling bad just after two days of bath. I am giving her only vegetarian Pedigree brand food.

Okay... So, I adopted a really nice, friendly 8-week old puppy from the shelter a couple days ago and bought a crate (with hopes of crate-training her) yesterday. Before I begin trying to train her, though, I have a question about the whole process...
In all of the articles I've been reading on the matter, it is stated that the puppy should be gradually introduced to the crate (first fed in the crate, later left in the crate for short periods of time, and lastly left in the crate while I'm at work/asleep).
Here's the question: since leaving her in the crate while she sleeps - or I'm at work - comes last, what should I do in the meanwhile? Should I just allow her to roam around the house as she's been doing while I've been at work (or sleep in bed with me at night)? Or, should I just disregard the order of the steps and simply have her spend the night in the crate to begin with (instead of working up to the in a step-by-step process)?

PLEASE HELP!!!

My dog is about 1.5 years old, hes very healthy, although I know he gets fleas sometimes because hes outside alot in the woods... but he intermittently looses some hair on his back near his tail... I think its just from occasional fleas and him bitting his hair off...he also gets some bumps and scabbing Hes very much an inside dog and I give him baths about once a week... so does anyone know what would be the best shampoo for his situation? thanks

If you had to rate yourself on a level of 1 through 10, 1 being I own a dog, I take care of it but it's JUST a dog and 10 being I think of my dog as my child and would do anything for my baby, what would you rate yourself. Be sure to include your dogs breed and age. I have a 4 year old Bichon Frise and a 1 year old Shih Tzu and I would rate myself as an 11 lol :).
REMEMBER NO RUDE COMMENTS PLEASE, SUCH AS I DON'T LIKE THAT DOG BREED, JUST YOUR OPINIONS. THANK YOU! :) stories about your dog are more than welcome.

Ok, I know I'm going to catch a lot of crap over this, but it irks me to no end to see people paying hundreds or thousands of dollars for a "Malchion" or a "Peke-a-poo" or a "Chi-weenie". Do people not realize that "designer breeds" are nothing but mixed-breeds? There are literally millions of dogs killed in shelters every-year with the same type of breeding as these high-dollar mutts, yet people insist on breeding and buying "Labradoodles" ect. And for that matter, I've been hearing a lot of people talk about "teacup" breeds lately...there is NO SUCH THING as a "teacup" anything: they are just underweight, sickly puppies with high price tags sold by disreputable breeders. Now that I've stated my position on this, I would love some feedback.

My parents are getting a german shorthair puppy (female) on January 5th. She will be a hunting dog. My parents already have a drauthaur (I know that's not even close on the spelling).
Anyway.... I thought I could make them a new puppy kit. I myself have two female dogs, but they are small dogs (Jack Russell/ Min Pin) and it's been a while.
I was wondering if A) you think this is a good gift idea
and B) what I should get?

I was wondering what would be appropriate.... if you were getting a new puppy what would you like to get as a present and what would you want to get yourself?

Also... any appropriate toy suggestions? The only toys that my dogs cannot destroy are the black Kongs in the large size. The anhihilate everything else. I know not all dogs are like this.

I often see people saying their dogs are picky eaters. Either with food type, kibble size, kibble shape, etc.

I personally have never had a dog that was a picky eater. As an adult, I'm on my first dog, but I grew up on a farm and at any given time, we had around 4-12 dogs. They've always just eaten whatever we put in their food bowls.

Have I just lucked out? Are there actually "picky" dogs? Or are the dogs only picky because the owners cater to them that way?

I have a German shepherd and a shepherd/rottweiler mix. My mixed breed dog is fairly aggressive toward other dogs (we're working on this). When I take her out for a walk, I occasionally encounter dogs running loose and it's a problem when they're determined to come up to her.

If the other dog doesn't behave aggressively, it's not a huge problem; but one day we encountered a husky type dog that had aggressive body language: tail up and stiff, hackles raised, direct eye contact and coming at us straight on. My dog went ballistic and I had a big problem on my hands.

I used to carry pepper spray, but I really prefer not to use this if I can avoid it. Any suggestions?

Thanks!
